Tactical story

Enyimba’s success was built on midfield control and intelligent pressing. They won the ball back quickly whenever Plateau United tried to build from the back, and their wide players stretched the opposition defence. The first goal came from exactly that kind of pressure, with Enyimba turning possession into a high-quality chance.

Plateau United had moments of promise, particularly on the counter, but they struggled to create sustained pressure. Enyimba’s back four stayed compact, and the goalkeeping was assured when called upon. The second goal was the killer blow: it forced Plateau United to open up, which only made Enyimba more comfortable in the closing stages.

Standout players

Chibuike Nwankwo was sharp throughout, linking play and taking his goal well. Samuel Kalu’s movement caused problems all evening, and his second-half finish put the result beyond doubt. In defence, Enyimba’s centre-back pairing was excellent, winning headers and stepping into midfield to cut out danger before it developed.

NPFL standings impact

This 2-0 win strengthens Enyimba’s position in the Nigeria Premier League standings and adds another important home result to their season. Plateau United remain a dangerous side, but they will be frustrated by their inability to test the goalkeeper more often. For Enyimba, a clean sheet and two goals is the perfect combination as the title race begins to take shape.

What’s next

Enyimba will look to carry this momentum into their next NPFL fixture, while Plateau United must regroup quickly and find more creativity in the final third. In a league as competitive as the Nigeria Premier League, home wins like this often prove decisive over the course of the campaign.
