Doma United 1-1 Kun Khalifat FC: Late equaliser denies hosts Nigeria Premier League win

Doma United were held to a 1-1 draw by Kun Khalifat FC in the Nigeria Premier League on Saturday night at Pantami Stadium, with Musa Ibrahim’s late equaliser cancelling out Samuel Agba’s first-half opener. Doma looked on course for a home victory after taking the lead in the 27th minute, but Kun Khalifat’s persistence earned them a deserved share of the points.

The result adds another competitive chapter to the Nigeria Premier League season and leaves both sides with positives to take, as well as areas to improve. Doma will be frustrated at dropping points late on, while Kun Khalifat will value the away point and the character shown in the closing stages.

Match overview

Doma started brightly and used the home crowd to their advantage, pressing high and forcing Kun Khalifat into early errors. The opener arrived when Agba found space at the edge of the box and curled a fine effort beyond the goalkeeper. Doma continued to look the more threatening side for the remainder of the first half, but they could not add a second goal.

Kun Khalifat improved after the break, keeping the ball better and pushing more players into attacking areas. Doma sat deeper as the game wore on, and the visitors finally found their reward in the 81st minute when Ibrahim converted from close range after a goalmouth scramble. Neither side could find a winner in the closing minutes.

Key moments

• 27th minute: Samuel Agba gives Doma United the lead with a curling strike from outside the box.
• 44th minute: Doma threaten again, but a header goes narrowly wide.
• 81st minute: Musa Ibrahim equalises for Kun Khalifat FC after a scrappy sequence inside the area.
• 90+4th minute: Doma win a late corner, but Kun Khalifat clear to secure the draw.

Tactical story

Doma’s first-half performance was built on quick pressing and aggressive transitions. They won the ball high up the pitch and created problems with early crosses and shots from the edge of the area. However, after taking the lead, the hosts gradually dropped deeper and allowed Kun Khalifat to establish a foothold in midfield.

Kun Khalifat’s second-half response was impressive. They moved the ball more patiently and began to stretch Doma’s defensive block. The equaliser came from sustained pressure rather than a single moment of brilliance, and it reflected the visitors’ improved urgency after the interval. Doma pushed for a late winner but lacked the composure needed in the final third.

Standout players

Agba was Doma’s most dangerous player and took his goal superbly, while the home midfield worked hard to control the first half. Ibrahim’s persistence paid off with the equaliser, and Kun Khalifat’s goalkeeper made an important save in the second half to keep his side within reach. Both captains led by example in a match that became increasingly physical as the night progressed.

Nigeria Premier League impact

The draw leaves Doma United with a sense of two points dropped, especially after controlling much of the first half. Kun Khalifat FC will view the point as a valuable away result and evidence of their resilience in the Nigeria Premier League. With the standings remaining tight, both clubs know that consistency in matches like this will shape their season.
