Bendel Insurance continued their impressive form in the Nigeria Premier League with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ikorodu City FC at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Wednesday night. The Benin City giants rode on a dominant first-half display to claim all three points, moving them closer to the top four in the standings.

Match Overview

From the opening whistle, Bendel Insurance took control of the midfield, pressing high and forcing Ikorodu City into early mistakes. The home side's persistence paid off in the 18th minute when striker Osaro Obasogie latched onto a through ball and slotted past the goalkeeper. Ikorodu City responded with pace on the wings, but their equaliser came against the run of play in the 34th minute through a deflected free-kick.

The second half saw Bendel Insurance regain their rhythm, and they restored their lead in the 67th minute when Emmanuel Ojo headed home a pinpoint cross from the right. Ikorodu City pushed for a late equaliser, but the home defence held firm.

Key Moments

• 18' – Osaro Obasogie opens the scoring for Bendel Insurance with a clinical finish.
• 34' – Ikorodu City equalise through a fortunate free-kick that takes a deflection.
• 67' – Emmanuel Ojo rises highest to head in the winner from a corner.
• 89' – Ikorodu City's best chance of the half is cleared off the line by Bendel skipper Kingsley Madu.

Tactical Story

Bendel Insurance lined up in a fluid 4-3-3, with their full-backs pushing high to overload the flanks. This forced Ikorodu City's midfield to sit deep, limiting their ability to build from the back. The visitors relied on quick counter-attacks, but their final ball was often rushed. Bendel's coach made a smart switch at half-time, bringing on a fresh winger who stretched the defence and created the winner.

Standout Players

Osaro Obasogie was a constant threat, using his strength to hold up play and bring others into the game. Emmanuel Ojo delivered the decisive moment and worked tirelessly off the ball. For Ikorodu City, goalkeeper David Eze kept the score respectable with three excellent saves.

Season Impact

With this win, Bendel Insurance climb into the upper half of the Nigeria Premier League table, boosting their confidence ahead of a tough away trip next weekend. Ikorodu City remain in the lower reaches and will need to improve their away form to avoid a relegation battle. The head-to-head record now favours Bendel, who have won two of the last three meetings between the sides.
