Excelsior Maassluis U21 secured a dominant 5-1 victory over RKVV Westlandia U21 in the Netherlands U21 league on Saturday, 3 October 2026, producing a clinical attacking performance in front of their home crowd.

The win extends Excelsior Maassluis's strong form in the Dutch youth setup and highlights the depth of talent coming through at the club. Westlandia, meanwhile, endured a difficult afternoon, conceding early and struggling to contain their opponents' quick passing and movement.

Match Overview

The fixture brought together two clubs with proud amateur traditions in the Netherlands: Excelsior Maassluis, from the town of Maassluis in South Holland, and RKVV Westlandia, based in Naaldwijk. Their U21 sides compete in a competitive regional development league where technical development and results both matter.

From the first whistle, Excelsior Maassluis looked the sharper side. They moved the ball with purpose, pressed aggressively and created chances at regular intervals. Westlandia tried to respond with counter-attacks, but they were repeatedly undone by the hosts' speed in transition.

Key Moments

• Early breakthrough: Excelsior Maassluis opened the scoring inside the first 15 minutes, finishing off a slick passing move.
• Quick double: The hosts added two more goals before half-time, taking control of the match and forcing Westlandia onto the back foot.
• Consolation goal: Westlandia pulled one back after the break with a well-taken effort, briefly raising hopes of a comeback.
• Late finish: Excelsior Maassluis restored their four-goal cushion with two further goals, sealing an emphatic win.

Tactical Story

Excelsior Maassluis lined up with an energetic midfield and looked to overload the wide areas. Their full-backs were constantly involved, and the front three rotated positions to create confusion in the Westlandia defence. The pressing was coordinated and aggressive, often winning the ball back within seconds of losing it.

Westlandia's best moments came when they managed to play direct balls over the top, but they lacked the sustained possession to build pressure. Defensively, they struggled with the movement of Excelsior's attackers and were guilty of giving the ball away in dangerous areas.

Standout Performers

Excelsior Maassluis's attacking players shared the goals, with one forward scoring a brace and others contributing assists. The midfield captain controlled the tempo and showed leadership throughout. For Westlandia, the goalscorer took his chance well, and the goalkeeper made a string of saves despite the scoreline.

Season Impact

This 5-1 result is a significant confidence boost for Excelsior Maassluis U21 as they aim to climb the Netherlands U21 standings. It showcases the club's ability to develop attacking talent and compete with local rivals. Westlandia U21 will need to regroup quickly, address their defensive shape and look to bounce back in their next fixture.
