HHC Hardenberg secured a narrow 1-0 away win over Rohda Raalte in the Netherlands Tweede Divisie on Saturday night, with a second-half goal and a disciplined defensive display deciding the contest at Sportpark Tijenraan.

Rohda Raalte pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages and delivered several crosses into the box, but HHC Hardenberg held firm. The visitors’ organisation, patience, and willingness to defend their lead proved the difference in a match of limited clear chances.

Match overview

The 21:00 kick-off was a tight affair, with both teams prioritising defensive shape. Rohda Raalte tried to build through midfield, while HHC looked to press at the right moments and attack quickly after regaining possession.

The decisive moment arrived in the second half when HHC found space between the lines and converted a composed finish. Rohda Raalte responded with urgency, but HHC’s back line remained compact and protected the lead.

Key moments

• 31st minute: Rohda Raalte forced a smart save from the HHC goalkeeper after a header from a cross.
• 57th minute: HHC Hardenberg scored the only goal, finishing neatly after a quick move through the middle.
• 74th minute: Rohda Raalte went close from a free-kick, but the ball drifted just wide.
• 89th minute: HHC cleared a dangerous corner to preserve their clean sheet.

Tactical story

HHC Hardenberg’s compact 4-4-2 shape made it difficult for Rohda Raalte to find central space. The visitors defended deep when needed, won important duels in midfield, and used their forwards to hold the ball up during rare attacking spells.

Rohda Raalte had more of the ball in the final 20 minutes but struggled to break down a well-organised block. Their crosses were dealt with by HHC’s centre-backs, and the visitors managed the clock effectively in the closing stages.

Standout performers

HHC’s goalkeeper was reliable when called upon, while the goalscorer showed composure in a low-scoring match. The centre-back pairing also deserved credit for limiting Rohda Raalte’s clear opportunities. For the hosts, their captain in midfield worked tirelessly, but the team lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

Season impact

The away win gives HHC Hardenberg a valuable boost in the Tweede Divisie and demonstrates their ability to win without dominating possession. Rohda Raalte’s home defeat is a frustrating one, as they had enough territory in the second half to earn a point. Both sides will focus on turning tight matches into better results as the season progresses.
