De Treffers secured a hard-fought 2-1 away victory against Katwijk in the Netherlands Tweede Divisie on 19 September 2026, with a late goal settling a tense and evenly matched contest at Sportpark De Krom. The win boosts De Treffers' push for a high finish in the third tier of Dutch football, while Katwijk are left to rue missed opportunities in front of their home supporters.

Match Overview

The Tweede Divisie is the highest tier of amateur football in the Netherlands and serves as a bridge between the professional leagues and the top amateur divisions. Both Katwijk and De Treffers are well-established clubs with passionate followings, and this fixture has developed into a competitive rivalry in recent seasons. Katwijk, playing at home, were looking to extend their strong start to the campaign, while De Treffers travelled with the intention of disrupting their rhythm.

The first half was played at a high tempo, with both sides committed to attacking football. Katwijk looked to dominate possession, while De Treffers were content to sit slightly deeper and strike on the break. The tactical contrast made for an engaging spectacle, and the visitors drew first blood with a well-worked goal midway through the first half.

Key Moments

• 23rd minute: De Treffers took the lead when Rutger Koopman received the ball on the edge of the box, shifted it onto his left foot and curled a precise shot into the far corner.
• 41st minute: Katwijk almost responded immediately, but a header from a corner was cleared off the line by a covering defender.
• 55th minute: The hosts equalised through Danny van den Berg, who latched onto a loose ball in the box and smashed it past the goalkeeper.
• 81st minute: De Treffers regained the lead when Koopman turned provider, sliding a clever pass to Stefan de Wit, who finished calmly at the near post.
• 90+3rd minute: Katwijk threw everyone forward for a late corner, but the De Treffers defence held firm.

Tactical Story

Katwijk set up in a 4-3-3, with their wingers looking to stretch the play and their midfielders pushing high to support the striker. They dominated the ball in the first half but struggled to break down a disciplined De Treffers back four. The visitors defended in a compact 4-4-2 block, denying space between the lines and forcing Katwijk to play sideways rather than forwards.

De Treffers' game plan was built on quick transitions. Whenever they won possession, they looked to release Koopman and their wide players into space behind the Katwijk full-backs. That approach paid off twice, with both goals coming from fast, direct attacks. After Katwijk equalised, the momentum seemed to shift, but De Treffers showed composure to weather the pressure and strike again. Their late winner was a testament to their tactical discipline and clinical finishing.

Standout Players

Rutger Koopman was the standout performer, scoring the opening goal and providing the assist for the winner. His movement, technique and link-up play caused Katwijk problems all evening. Stefan de Wit also impressed with his composure in front of goal, while goalkeeper Mark van der Meij made two crucial saves to preserve the lead.

For Katwijk, Danny van den Berg was the brightest spark, taking his goal well and constantly looking to drive at the defence. Midfielder Jeroen Bakker worked tirelessly in the centre of the park, but the home side lacked the final pass to unlock a stubborn De Treffers defence. Defender Bas de Groot was solid for much of the game but was beaten for pace on the winning goal.

Season Impact

The three points lift De Treffers into a promising position in the Tweede Divisie standings, reinforcing their credentials as a side capable of challenging for promotion. For Katwijk, the defeat is a frustrating setback, especially given their share of possession and chances. The result highlights the fine margins in this division, where clinical finishing often separates the top teams from the rest.

De Treffers will take great confidence from a disciplined away performance against a strong opponent. Katwijk, meanwhile, must regroup quickly and find a way to convert their territorial dominance into goals. With the season still unfolding, both clubs remain in the hunt for a successful campaign, but this night belonged to the visitors from Groesbeek.
