De Treffers and Jong Sparta Rotterdam Youth shared the points in a wildly entertaining 3-3 draw in the Netherlands Tweede Divisie on Sunday. The match swung repeatedly, with De Treffers twice taking the lead and Jong Sparta twice fighting back before a late equaliser completed the scoring at Sportpark Zuid.

Six-goal thriller

The game began at a high tempo, with both sides committing players forward and leaving space in behind. De Treffers struck first through a well-timed run into the box, but Jong Sparta responded quickly with a composed finish after a turnover in midfield. The hosts regained the lead before half-time, only for the young visitors to level again early in the second period.

De Treffers looked to have won it when they scored a third goal in the 69th minute, but Jong Sparta kept pushing and found an equaliser in the closing stages. The final whistle brought a mixture of relief and frustration for both teams, who had chances to claim all three points.

Key moments

• 7’ – De Treffers lead: A quick passing move opened up the Jong Sparta defence and the opening goal was finished from close range.
• 24’ – Jong Sparta equalise: The visitors capitalised on a loose pass and scored with a low shot across the goalkeeper.
• 36’ – De Treffers restore the lead: A header from a corner put the hosts back in front.
• 51’ – Jong Sparta level again: A driving run from midfield ended with a shot into the bottom corner.
• 69’ – De Treffers make it 3-2: The hosts finished a fast counter-attack with a calm finish inside the box.
• 88’ – Jong Sparta equalise: A late cross was turned home at the back post to complete the comeback.

Tactical story

Both teams prioritised attacking transitions over defensive security. De Treffers tried to use their physical presence in the box and were dangerous from set pieces, while Jong Sparta relied on youthful energy, quick combinations, and relentless pressing. That pressing forced several turnovers in dangerous areas and contributed to the open nature of the contest.

The match was decided by small margins rather than sustained dominance. De Treffers will be disappointed with the goals they conceded, especially the late equaliser, while Jong Sparta will take encouragement from their refusal to give up. The pace of the game never dropped, and both goalkeepers were kept busy throughout.

Standout performers

De Treffers’ striker was a constant handful in the box, scoring once and creating space for others. Jong Sparta’s midfield runner drove the comeback with energy and direct running, while their substitute made an impact in the final 20 minutes. The visitors’ young defence showed composure under pressure, even if it was tested repeatedly.

What it means for the table

The draw leaves both sides with mixed emotions in the Tweede Divisie standings. De Treffers extend their unbeaten run but lose ground after failing to protect a late lead. Jong Sparta Rotterdam Youth continue to show the attacking potential of their young squad, though their defensive record remains a concern. For neutral supporters, it was a reminder of how unpredictable and entertaining the Dutch third tier can be.
