De Treffers won a five-goal thriller 3-2 away to Almere City Youth in the Netherlands Tweede Divisie on 17 October 2026. The visitors twice led, were pegged back, and then found a late winner in a match full of attacking intent and defensive vulnerability.

Match overview

Almere City Youth started brightly and looked comfortable in possession, but De Treffers struck first with a clinical counter-attack. The home side responded well and equalised before half-time, setting up an open second period. Both teams created chances at a high rate, and the game swung back and forth after the break.

De Treffers regained the lead early in the second half, only for Almere City Youth to level again. With the match seemingly heading for a draw, the visitors found a decisive third goal in the closing stages. Almere pushed for a late equaliser but could not find a way through a tired-looking De Treffers defence that held on bravely.

Key moments

• De Treffers opener: A fast break ended with a composed finish past the Almere goalkeeper.
• Almere equaliser: The hosts levelled with a well-placed shot after sustained pressure.
• Second-half swing: De Treffers restored their lead, but Almere responded again to make it 2-2.
• Late winner: De Treffers scored from a set piece in the final minutes to snatch all three points.

Tactical story

This was a game of transitions. Almere City Youth wanted to play out from the back and dominate possession, but De Treffers pressed cleverly and forced mistakes in dangerous areas. The visitors were direct and efficient, often attacking with three players in quick succession.

Almere’s youthful energy created plenty of chances, but their defensive structure was exposed too often. De Treffers’ experience showed in the key moments, particularly in the final 15 minutes when they slowed the tempo and used set pieces to their advantage. The five goals reflected both teams’ attacking quality and the space they allowed each other in midfield.

Standout performers

De Treffers’ forward line was sharp and decisive, with the late match-winner capping a strong individual display. Their goalkeeper made two important saves at 2-2 to keep the score level. For Almere City Youth, the midfield creator was central to their best attacking moves, while their young defence will learn from a difficult evening.

Season impact

The win gives De Treffers a valuable three points in the Tweede Divisie and reinforces their ability to win high-scoring away games. Almere City Youth’s attacking display was encouraging, but the defeat highlights the need for greater defensive discipline. In a competitive division, this is the kind of match that can shape a team’s season.
