GVVV Veenendaal booked their place in the next round of the KNVB Cup with a convincing 4-0 victory over DVS 33 Ermelo at Sportpark Panhuis on Tuesday night. The home side put on a professional display, scoring twice in each half to see off their determined opponents and avoid any cup upset.

Match Overview

From the first whistle, GVVV asserted their authority. The hosts controlled possession and created a string of chances, with DVS 33 Ermelo forced to defend deep. The breakthrough came midway through the first half, and from there, GVVV never looked back. A dominant second-half performance sealed the rout, much to the delight of the home supporters.

Key Moments

• 23rd minute: GVVV striker Jeroen van der Velden opened the scoring with a composed finish inside the box after a neat through ball.
• 41st minute: Van der Velden doubled the lead, heading home from a corner to give the hosts a comfortable half-time advantage.
• 67th minute: Midfielder Stefan Kuiper made it 3-0 with a powerful drive from the edge of the area.
• 82nd minute: Substitute Tim de Wit rounded off the scoring, slotting past the goalkeeper after a swift counter-attack.

Tactical Story

GVVV lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, using width to stretch DVS 33 Ermelo's defence. The full-backs pushed high, allowing the wingers to cut inside and create overloads in central areas. DVS struggled to cope with the pace and movement of GVVV's front three, and their attempts to press high left gaps at the back. The visitors did have brief spells of possession but lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

Standout Players

Jeroen van der Velden was the standout performer, with two well-taken goals and an assist. His movement off the ball consistently troubled the DVS defence. In midfield, captain Mark van den Berg controlled the tempo, while goalkeeper Rick de Groot kept a clean sheet with a few important saves, though he was largely untroubled.

Cup Implications

For GVVV, this result is a confidence boost as they advance to the next round of the KNVB Cup. The club, which competes in the Derde Divisie, will now await the draw for the following stage, hoping for a potential tie against a professional side. For DVS 33 Ermelo, the cup run ends, but they can turn their attention back to their league campaign.
