Zwolle Women 1-1 FC Twente Enschede Women produced a competitive Eredivisie Vrouwen encounter on Sunday, with the hosts showing resilience and the visitors demonstrating why they remain one of the division’s toughest sides to beat. The draw leaves both teams with something to take from the match: Zwolle proved they can compete against top opposition at home, while Twente showed the character to recover after falling behind.

Match overview

FC Twente Enschede Women enjoyed the greater share of possession for long spells, pushing Zwolle back and forcing the home side to defend in a compact shape. Zwolle, however, were not simply passive. They looked to break quickly through the flanks and created enough moments to suggest the opener was not entirely against the run of play. The first half was tight, with both goalkeepers called into action and the midfield battle setting the tone for a scrappy but engaging contest.

Key moments

• Zwolle’s best early spell came from aggressive pressing, forcing Twente into hurried passes in midfield.
• The home side broke the deadlock with a well-worked attacking move that rewarded their patience in transition.
• Twente responded after the interval with more width and quicker ball circulation, eventually finding the equaliser.
• Both teams had late chances to win it, but a combination of solid goalkeeping and last-ditch defending kept the score level.

Tactical story

Twente’s approach was built on controlling the ball and pinning Zwolle deep, but they struggled at times to turn possession into clear-cut chances. Zwolle’s defensive block was organised, and their willingness to counter at speed made them dangerous even without dominating the ball. The equaliser came when Twente increased the tempo and got more bodies into the box, a reminder of their attacking quality. Still, Zwolle’s discipline in the final stages ensured the visitors could not complete the turnaround.

Standout performers

Zwolle’s back line deserved credit for withstanding long periods of pressure, while their goalkeeper produced important saves in both halves. In midfield, the hosts worked tirelessly to close space and launch counters. For Twente, the midfield conductor and wide players were central to their comeback, constantly probing for gaps and stretching the Zwolle defence. The visitors’ persistence paid off, but they will feel they should have converted more of their territorial advantage.

What it means

The point keeps FC Twente Enschede Women in the thick of the Eredivisie Vrouwen title conversation, though they will see it as two dropped rather than one gained. For Zwolle Women, the result is a useful marker of progress: a home draw against one of the league’s strongest teams can build confidence for the matches ahead. In a division where consistency matters, both sides will look to turn encouraging spells into more complete performances next time out.
