Emmen secured a convincing 2-0 away win over Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands Eerste Divisie on 24 October 2026, combining disciplined defending with clinical finishing. Vitesse dominated possession for long periods but lacked penetration, while Emmen made the most of their key moments to take all three points.

Match overview

Vitesse started with intent and moved the ball quickly through midfield, but Emmen’s compact defensive block limited clear chances. The visitors grew in confidence as the first half progressed and took the lead with a well-executed attacking move. After the break, Vitesse increased the tempo and pushed more players forward, but Emmen’s organisation held firm before a late counter-attack sealed the result.

Key moments

• 34th minute: Emmen took the lead when Milan de Haan converted a low cross at the near post.
• 52nd minute: Vitesse created their best opportunity of the match, but a close-range header was cleared off the line.
• 68th minute: Emmen goalkeeper Kyan van der Meer produced a strong save to deny Vitesse an equaliser.
• 76th minute: Emmen doubled their advantage through Sem Dekkers, who finished calmly after a quick break.
• 88th minute: Vitesse pushed bodies forward but could not find a consolation goal.

Tactical story

Vitesse’s 4-3-3 gave them plenty of the ball, but Emmen’s 5-3-2 shape made it difficult to find space in central areas. The visitors were content to defend deep and attack through quick transitions, and that strategy worked perfectly. Vitesse’s full-backs pushed high, leaving room behind, and Emmen exploited those gaps for both goals. The home side’s crossing was often rushed, while Emmen’s defenders stayed composed under pressure.

Standout performers

Milan de Haan’s opening goal set the tone for Emmen, and Sem Dekkers’ late finish showed excellent decision-making. Kyan van der Meer was equally important in goal, making the saves that protected the lead. For Vitesse, the midfield worked hard to create momentum, but the final pass was missing too often.

What the result means

Emmen climb the Eerste Divisie table with a valuable away victory, while Vitesse’s inconsistent home form remains a concern. For Vitesse, the priority will be turning possession into clearer chances. For Emmen, this performance is a template: defend compactly, stay patient, and punish mistakes.
