Emmen produced a clinical away performance to thrash Dordrecht 3-0 at the Riwal Hoogwerkers Stadion on 10 October 2026, piling more misery on the hosts in the Netherlands Eerste Divisie. A second-half brace from striker Ole Romeny and a late third from midfielder Jorrit Smeets sealed a comfortable win that lifted Emmen into the top six, while Dordrecht remain rooted in the relegation zone.

Match Overview

Dordrecht actually started the game with intent, pressing high and forcing Emmen into a few early mistakes. However, they lacked quality in the final third, and once Emmen weathered the initial storm, the visitors took control. The first half was a cagey affair, with few clear chances, but Emmen’s tactical discipline and counter-attacking threat always looked likely to break the deadlock. Dordrecht’s defence, which has been leaky all season, finally cracked just after the half-hour mark.

Key Moments

• 31st minute – 0-1: Emmen took the lead against the run of play. A quick break led to Ole Romeny firing a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
• 55th minute – 0-2: Romeny doubled his tally, converting a penalty after Dordrecht defender Kevin Jansen was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.
• 78th minute – 0-3: Jorrit Smeets added a third, finishing off a slick team move with a first-time strike from 12 yards.

Tactical Story

Emmen set up in a compact 4-4-2, happy to concede possession and hit Dordrecht on the break. Dordrecht, playing a 4-3-3, saw plenty of the ball (61%) but created very little, with their crosses easily dealt with by Emmen’s centre-backs. The home side’s full-backs pushed high, leaving them exposed to Emmen’s rapid wingers. The penalty decision was the turning point; after that, Dordrecht’s heads dropped, and Emmen cruised to victory. Emmen’s defensive organisation was exemplary, limiting Dordrecht to just two shots on target.

Standout Players

Ole Romeny was the match-winner with his two goals, taking his season total to eight. His movement and finishing were a constant thorn in Dordrecht’s side. Jorrit Smeets controlled the midfield and capped his performance with a well-taken goal. For Dordrecht, only goalkeeper Liam Bossin emerged with credit, making several saves to prevent a more embarrassing scoreline.

Season Impact

Emmen climb to sixth in the Eerste Divisie, firmly in the playoff mix. Dordrecht remain 19th, deep in relegation trouble, with just one win from their last eight games. The pressure is mounting on Dordrecht’s management, and they face a crucial trip to FC Eindhoven next. Emmen, meanwhile, will look to build on this result when they travel to Jong Utrecht. This was a mature away performance that suggests Emmen could be a dark horse for promotion.
