VV Dongen 3-0 Groene Ster: Ruthless First Half Sets Up Comfortable Win

VV Dongen produced a dominant performance to beat Groene Ster 3-0 in the Netherlands Derde Divisie on 18 October 2026. Goals from Tim van Loon, Joris de Wit and Stan van der Velden secured a deserved victory, with Dongen’s pressing and quick ball movement proving too much for the visitors at Sportpark De Biezen.

The win moves Dongen up the Derde Divisie table and extends their encouraging run of form. Groene Ster, meanwhile, were left to reflect on a difficult evening in which they struggled to cope with Dongen’s intensity and conceded at key moments.

Match Overview

Dongen needed only nine minutes to take the lead. Van Loon intercepted a loose pass in midfield, drove forward and finished confidently into the bottom corner. The home side doubled their advantage on 42 minutes when De Wit arrived late in the box to convert a low cross from the left.

The third goal arrived on 70 minutes. Van der Velden, who had been a constant threat down the right, cut inside and curled a shot beyond the goalkeeper to put the result beyond doubt. Groene Ster threatened occasionally on the break, but Dongen’s goalkeeper was rarely tested and the home defence remained composed throughout.

Key Moments

• 9th minute: Tim van Loon opens the scoring after winning the ball in midfield.
• 42nd minute: Joris de Wit doubles the lead with a close-range finish.
• 70th minute: Stan van der Velden seals the win with a curling effort from the right.

Tactical Story

VV Dongen set up in a 4-2-3-1 shape and pressed Groene Ster aggressively from the first whistle. Their front four worked hard to close down passing lanes, forcing the visitors into hurried clearances. That pressure created the opening goal and set the tone for much of the match.

Groene Ster tried to slow the game down and build through midfield, but Dongen’s compact structure made it difficult for them to find rhythm. When the visitors did get forward, Dongen’s defensive line stepped up well to catch attackers offside and win the ball back quickly. The home side’s ability to transition from defence to attack was the defining feature of the performance.

Standout Players

Van Loon was excellent in midfield, combining energy with quality on the ball and scoring the important first goal. De Wit’s movement and finishing made him a constant threat, while Van der Velden’s pace on the right caused problems throughout. The clean sheet was equally valuable, with Dongen’s goalkeeper commanding his area and the back four staying disciplined.

Season Impact

The victory gives VV Dongen another important three points in the Derde Divisie and strengthens their position in the upper half of the table. Groene Ster remain in need of a response after a heavy defeat. For Dongen, the challenge now is to maintain this level of intensity as they look to turn a strong run into a genuine promotion push.
