ACV Assen run riot in 4-1 win at Hoogeveen

ACV Assen delivered a ruthless away performance to beat Hoogeveen 4-1 in the Netherlands Derde Divisie on 18 October 2026. The visitors combined high pressing with clinical finishing and took control of the match early, leaving the home side with a long afternoon at both ends of the pitch.

ACV Assen opened the scoring inside the first quarter of an hour. A sustained spell of pressure forced Hoogeveen into a rushed clearance, and the ball was worked into the box before being finished with a low strike. The early goal set the tone, and the visitors continued to press aggressively, denying Hoogeveen time on the ball.

Match overview

The second goal arrived before half-time. ACV Assen won a corner and delivered it with pace and precision, allowing their centre-back to rise highest and head home. Hoogeveen struggled to build rhythm, and their attempts to play out from the back were repeatedly disrupted by the visitors’ front line.

Hoogeveen improved briefly after the restart and pulled a goal back just before the hour. A quick move down the left ended with a composed finish inside the box, giving the home crowd hope of a comeback. But ACV Assen responded almost immediately, restoring their two-goal cushion with a well-taken goal on the counter-attack.

Tactical story

ACV Assen’s high press was the defining feature of the match. They forced Hoogeveen into mistakes in dangerous areas and won the ball back quickly whenever the home side tried to progress through midfield. Their wide players stretched the pitch, creating space for central runners and making it difficult for Hoogeveen to defend the full width of the penalty area.

Hoogeveen’s goal was a reminder of their attacking potential, but they could not sustain pressure. ACV Assen’s midfield controlled the tempo after the third goal, slowing the game down when needed and picking their moments to attack. The visitors managed the closing stages professionally and comfortably saw out the win.

Standout performers

ACV Assen’s central defender was dominant in both boxes, scoring the second goal and dealing with Hoogeveen’s aerial threat. The visiting forward line was sharp and unselfish, while the midfield worked tirelessly to win second balls. For Hoogeveen, the left-sided attacker was their brightest spark and was rewarded with the home side’s only goal.

Season impact

The victory boosts ACV Assen’s standing in the Derde Divisie and underlines their ability to produce complete away performances. Hoogeveen will need to regroup quickly, particularly defensively, after conceding four goals at home. The result leaves ACV Assen with confidence and momentum, while Hoogeveen are left searching for consistency in a demanding fourth-tier campaign.
