FC Twente/Heracles Academie U21 produced a commanding away display to beat Willem II (Youth) 3-1 in the Netherlands Beloften Eredivisie on 10 October 2026. The visitors scored three times before Willem II found a late consolation, moving them up the development league standings.

The match, which kicked off at 21:00, showcased the attacking quality of the combined Twente/Heracles academy side, as well as the resilience of a Willem II youth team that kept fighting until the final whistle.

Match overview

Twente/Heracles started brightly and took the lead inside 11 minutes. Their high press forced Willem II into a hurried clearance, and the loose ball was worked quickly into the penalty area. The early goal set the tone: the visitors were sharper in the duels and more decisive in the final third.

Willem II tried to respond through possession, but Twente/Heracles' midfield pressed aggressively and won the ball back high. A second goal arrived before the half-hour mark, and a third just after the interval effectively settled the contest. Willem II pulled one back in the 78th minute, but the visitors managed the closing stages professionally.

Key moments

• 11' — Sem Bakker opens the scoring for Twente/Heracles with a first-time finish inside the box.
• 29' — Bakker doubles the lead, converting a low cross from the right.
• 54' — Jort van der Veen adds a third with a composed finish after a quick counterattack.
• 78' — Lucas van den Berg scores a consolation for Willem II with a header from a corner.
• 90' — Twente/Heracles see out the win without further alarm.

Tactical story

The visitors lined up in a fluid 4-2-3-1 that became a 4-3-3 when pressing. Their front four rotated constantly, making it difficult for Willem II's defence to pick up runners. The first two goals came from pressing triggers: a poor touch, a backward pass, and immediate pressure. Twente/Heracles' ability to turn defence into attack in seconds was the defining feature of the match.

Willem II improved after the break and enjoyed more possession, but they struggled to break down a well-drilled back line. Their goal came from a set piece, a reward for their persistence. Twente/Heracles, meanwhile, showed game management by slowing the tempo and keeping the ball in wide areas during the final 15 minutes.

Standout players

Sem Bakker was the standout with a first-half brace, while Jort van der Veen impressed with his movement and finishing. In midfield, Ruben Dijkstra controlled the tempo for the academy side. For Willem II, Lucas van den Berg took his goal well, and goalkeeper Mees de Wit made several saves to prevent a heavier defeat.

What it means in the Beloften Eredivisie

The three points lift FC Twente/Heracles Academie U21 in the Netherlands Beloften Eredivisie standings and reinforce their reputation as one of the more exciting attacking sides in the division. Willem II (Youth) remain in a development phase, but the late goal gives them a positive note to build on. In a league designed to prepare players for senior football, this was a clear lesson in the importance of pressing, transitions, and finishing.
