Go Ahead Eagles Reserve left De Graafschap's youth academy with a 1-0 win on 10 October 2026, defeating Jong De Graafschap in a Netherlands Beloften Eredivisie fixture that was decided by a single second-half moment.

The away side's disciplined performance earned three points, while Jong De Graafschap were left frustrated after creating enough possession to feel they deserved more.

Match overview

The match kicked off at 21:00 and developed into a contrast of styles. Jong De Graafschap wanted to play through the thirds with quick combinations, while Go Ahead Eagles Reserve adopted a compact 4-4-2 block and looked to strike on the break. The first half was cagey, with both teams cautious in possession and unwilling to leave gaps.

Go Ahead Eagles' best early chance came from a corner, while De Graafschap forced a smart save from a free-kick. The game's decisive moment arrived in the 54th minute, when the visitors won the ball high up the pitch and punished a loose pass.

Key moments

• 17' — Go Ahead Eagles go close from a corner, but the header clears the crossbar.
• 33' — Jong De Graafschap's playmaker tests the goalkeeper with a dipping free-kick.
• 54' — Bram van Dijk intercepts a misplaced pass and finishes calmly for the only goal of the game.
• 71' — De Graafschap's best chance: a low cross is turned wide from six yards.
• 88' — Go Ahead Eagles goalkeeper Stijn Bos makes a reflex save to preserve the clean sheet.

Tactical story

Jong De Graafschap saw more of the ball, but Go Ahead Eagles Reserve's defensive structure was excellent. The visitors kept their lines close, forced play wide, and relied on their central midfielders to screen the back four. That approach limited De Graafschap to mostly speculative efforts from distance.

Going forward, Go Ahead Eagles were direct and efficient. Their winning goal came from a high press, a theme that ran through their performance. After taking the lead, they became even more compact, conceding territory but not clear chances. De Graafschap sent extra bodies forward late on, but the final pass was never accurate enough to unlock a well-organised defence.

Standout players

Bram van Dijk will take the headlines for the winning goal, but goalkeeper Stijn Bos was the away side's hero with a late save. Centre-back Daan Mulder also impressed with his reading of the game. For Jong De Graafschap, winger Youri van den Berg was a constant threat, while midfielder Kai Visser tried to drive his team forward.

What it means in the Beloften Eredivisie

The win gives Go Ahead Eagles Reserve a valuable boost in the Netherlands Beloften Eredivisie table, underlining the value of defensive discipline in youth football. Jong De Graafschap remain competitive but will need to turn possession into goals if they are to climb the standings. With the season still developing, both clubs will view this match as an important learning step for their young players.
