Tactical story

LD Sofala’s 4-2-3-1 setup gave them balance and control. The midfield pair protected the back four, allowing the attacking players to rotate freely and exploit space between Baia de Pemba’s midfield and defence. Sofala’s wide players were particularly effective, repeatedly getting to the byline and forcing the visitors into rushed clearances.

Baia de Pemba attempted to press higher after conceding, but that only created more space for Sofala to counter into. Their defensive line was often too stretched, and Sofala’s third goal exposed that perfectly. The visitors showed flashes of attacking intent but lacked the composure needed to turn possession into clear chances.

Standout performers

Ernesto Carlos was central to Sofala’s attacking play, scoring the opener and linking well with the midfield. Zito’s aerial threat made him a constant danger from set pieces, while Abreu’s energy off the bench capped a strong team performance. For Baia de Pemba, the goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score respectable, but the defensive unit as a whole struggled against Sofala’s movement and width.

Mozambique Championship impact

The victory strengthens LD Sofala’s position in the Mozambique Championship table and adds valuable momentum to their campaign. A three-goal win and a clean sheet will boost confidence, particularly with goal difference often proving significant in tight races. Baia de Pemba, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly and find greater defensive solidity if they are to avoid similar setbacks in their next fixtures.
