CS Petrocub 0-0 Dacia-Buiucani: Goalkeepers Shine in Moldovan Super Liga Stalemate

CS Petrocub and Dacia-Buiucani played out a goalless draw in the Moldovan Super Liga on Saturday, 17 October 2026, with both goalkeepers producing important saves in a 22:00 kick-off. Petrocub had more of the ball, but Dacia-Buiucani defended resiliently and came close to snatching a winner on the counter-attack.

Match overview

The home side started with purpose, pushing their full-backs forward and looking to create overloads on the flanks. Petrocub's first clear chance came inside the opening ten minutes, but a header from a corner was headed off the line by a Dacia-Buiucani defender. The visitors responded by dropping deeper and inviting pressure, hoping to use their pace on the break.

That pattern continued for much of the first half. Petrocub circulated the ball well but found it difficult to penetrate a compact back four. Dacia-Buiucani's midfield stayed close to the centre-backs, closing the space between the lines and forcing Petrocub into crosses that were comfortably dealt with.

Key moments

• 9th minute: Petrocub's corner caused chaos, but a goal-line clearance kept the score level.
• 27th minute: Dacia-Buiucani's first real counter ended with a low shot saved by Dorin Covali.
• 52nd minute: Petrocub's best move of the match ended with a curling effort that clipped the top of the crossbar.
• 68th minute: Dacia-Buiucani goalkeeper Victor Buga made a strong one-handed save to deny a close-range header.
• 84th minute: The visitors nearly won it on the break, but Covali stood tall to block a one-on-one chance.

Tactical story

Petrocub controlled possession for long spells, building patiently from the back and using their midfield to switch play. However, their final ball was often predictable, and Dacia-Buiucani's centre-backs were happy to defend crosses. The home side's best moments came when their attacking midfielder drifted into half-spaces and combined with the striker, but those combinations were too infrequent.

Dacia-Buiucani's game plan was clear: stay compact, deny central access, and attack quickly when turnovers occurred. They nearly executed it perfectly in the second half, creating two excellent chances on the counter. A point away from home in the Moldovan Super Liga is a solid result, even if the visitors will feel they could have taken all three.

Standout players

Both goalkeepers deserve top billing. Covali was alert to Dacia-Buiucani's counter-attacks and made a crucial late save, while Buga produced the save of the match early in the second half. Petrocub's central midfielder kept the team ticking with tidy distribution, and Dacia-Buiucani's right-sided defender was excellent in one-on-one situations, repeatedly stopping crosses at source.

Table impact

The draw gives each side a point in the Moldovan Super Liga standings. For Petrocub, it is a case of two points dropped at home, especially given their control of the ball. For Dacia-Buiucani, the clean sheet and away point provide encouragement as they look to build a more consistent campaign. Both teams will know that converting possession into clear chances is the next step if they are to climb the table.

A goalless draw can sometimes feel like a dull result, but this was a tactical contest with genuine moments of quality at both ends. The goalkeepers ensured it finished level.
