FK Iskra Danilovgrad suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to FK Grbalj Radanovici in the Montenegro Second League on Wednesday evening, a result that hands the visitors a valuable away win and leaves the Danilovgrad side reflecting on missed opportunities. A single goal settled a tight, hard-fought contest in which defences largely dominated and clear chances were at a premium.

Match Overview

Iskra began the game with intent, moving the ball quickly through midfield and looking to stretch Grbalj's defensive line. However, the visitors were well organised and happy to absorb pressure before hitting on the counter. The decisive moment arrived in the second half when Grbalj capitalised on a loose ball in the box, firing past the Iskra goalkeeper to silence the home crowd. Iskra pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but a combination of resolute defending and some wasteful finishing kept them off the scoresheet.

Key Moments

• Early pressure: Iskra forced a series of corners in the opening twenty minutes but could not convert.
• Grbalj break: The visitors' best first-half chance came on the counter, with a shot flashing wide.
• Winning goal: Grbalj scored shortly after the hour mark, punishing Iskra for failing to clear their lines.
• Late rally: Iskra threw bodies forward in the final ten minutes, but Grbalj held firm.

Tactical Story

Iskra lined up in a 4-3-3 and tried to dominate possession, but their build-up play was often too slow, allowing Grbalj to retreat into a compact 4-4-2 block. The visitors' midfield pair screened the back four effectively, forcing Iskra into wide areas where crosses were easily dealt with. After taking the lead, Grbalj dropped even deeper and invited pressure, relying on quick breaks to relieve it. Iskra's manager responded with attacking substitutions, but the lack of a genuine focal point in the box meant their late pressure never truly threatened an equaliser.

Standout Players

Grbalj's match-winner, Stefan Kovačević, was sharp throughout and took his goal well, while central defender Miloš Radović produced a commanding performance at the heart of the defence. For Iskra, captain Vukan Perović tried to drive his team forward from midfield, and winger Bojan Maraš was a constant outlet on the right. Ultimately, though, the home side lacked the final touch.

Season Impact and Table Context

The win lifts FK Grbalj Radanovici up the Montenegro Second League table and gives them momentum heading into their next fixture. For FK Iskra Danilovgrad, it is a frustrating home defeat that leaves them with work to do as they look to climb the standings. With the division already shaping up to be tight, both sides know that away victories and home clean sheets will be crucial in the race for promotion or a place in the relegation play-offs.
