Tapachula Soconusco FC 1-4 Deportiva Venados — Deportiva Venados produced one of the standout away performances of the MEX Liga Premier Serie weekend, powering past Tapachula Soconusco FC with a 4-1 victory at the Estadio Olímpico de Tapachula on 20 October 2026. The visitors blended aggressive pressing with clinical finishing, turning a competitive opening period into a convincing win that strengthens their position in the upper half of the table.

Match overview

Venados were the sharper side from the first whistle. Their high press forced Tapachula into hurried clearances, and the visitors repeatedly won second balls in midfield. The early breakthrough gave Venados control, but Tapachula responded well and briefly levelled through a well-worked set piece. The decisive spell came just before and after half-time, when Venados scored twice in quick succession to take command of the contest.

The final statistics reflected the visitors’ efficiency rather than total dominance: Venados had slightly less possession but created the clearer chances, particularly in transition. Tapachula saw more of the ball in the second half but struggled to break down a compact defensive block, and their final pass repeatedly let them down in the attacking third.

Key moments

• 12’ — Venados take the lead: A turnover high up the pitch released the visiting striker, who finished low into the far corner.
• 27’ — Tapachula equalise: The hosts responded with a headed goal from a corner, sparking the home crowd.
• 41’ — Venados restore their advantage: A quick combination on the right ended with a low drive into the bottom corner.
• 58’ — The third goal arrives: Venados broke at speed after a Tapachula attack broke down, finishing a counter-attack with a composed strike.
• 76’ — Venados seal it: A penalty converted confidently made it 4-1 and ended any realistic hope of a Tapachula comeback.

Tactical story

Venados set up with a disciplined 4-2-3-1 and focused on cutting off Tapachula’s first pass out from the back. Their midfield duo sat close to the centre-backs, while the wide players pressed aggressively whenever the hosts tried to build down the flanks. That structure forced Tapachula into long balls, which Venados’ centre-backs dealt with comfortably for long stretches.

Tapachula’s best moments came when they switched play quickly and attacked the space behind Venados’ full-backs. The equaliser was a reward for that approach, but the hosts were unable to sustain it. After Venados regained the lead, the visitors dropped slightly deeper and invited pressure before striking on the counter. It was a mature away performance built on game management as much as attacking quality.

Standout performers

Venados’ striker Iván Cárdenas was the headline figure, scoring twice and leading the line with intelligent movement. Luis Aguilar and Diego Montiel also found the net, while the visitors’ goalkeeper made two important saves at 1-1 to protect the lead. For Tapachula, Carlos Nava’s equaliser was the brightest note on a difficult afternoon; he was the hosts’ most persistent attacking threat and won several free kicks in dangerous areas.

What the result means

The three points give Deportiva Venados renewed momentum in the MEX Liga Premier Serie and underline their credentials as a side capable of winning away from home. For Tapachula Soconusco FC, the defeat highlights familiar problems in defensive transition: the hosts competed well in spells but were punished for leaving space behind their midfield. Both teams now turn to their next fixtures, with Venados looking to build on a statement result and Tapachula eager to correct their home form quickly.
