Real Refineros 2-3 Leones Negros FC saw the visitors edge a five-goal contest in the MEX Liga Premier Serie, with Bryan Zúñiga's brace proving decisive. In a match that swung repeatedly, Leones Negros' superior control in midfield and sharper finishing in the final twenty minutes proved the difference between the sides.

Match Overview

Real Refineros began brightly in front of their own supporters, pressing high and forcing early mistakes from the Leones Negros back line. The opening goal arrived inside the first quarter of an hour, Jorge Valdez finishing neatly after a short corner routine caught the defence flat-footed.

The response from Leones Negros was measured rather than frantic. They slowed the tempo, circulated the ball through midfield and gradually took control of the contest, equalising before half-time when Zúñiga turned inside the penalty area and found the far corner.

Key Moments

• 14' – Real Refineros 1-0: Jorge Valdez scores from close range after a clever set-piece routine.
• 38' – 1-1: Bryan Zúñiga equalises with a composed finish inside the box.
• 52' – 1-2: César Lomelí gives Leones Negros the lead with a header from a deep cross.
• 67' – 2-2: Óscar Medina levels for the hosts with a fine individual effort.
• 81' – 2-3: Zúñiga strikes again, arriving late in the area to convert the winner.

Tactical Story

Real Refineros' 4-4-2 gave them energy and width in the first half but left them exposed centrally once Leones Negros switched to a narrower shape. The visitors' midfield trio began winning second balls consistently, and the game's momentum shifted permanently after the hour mark.

The decisive tactical note was Leones Negros' willingness to attack the back post. Both of their second-half goals came from deliveries into that zone, and Real Refineros never fully adjusted, repeatedly losing track of runners arriving from deep.

Standout Players

Bryan Zúñiga was the Man of the Match, his two goals showcasing both technical quality and timing. César Lomelí was excellent in the air and in transition, while Leones Negros' goalkeeper made a crucial stop at 2-2 to keep his side level. For Real Refineros, Óscar Medina produced the goal of the game and never stopped working, while Jorge Valdez was a constant nuisance in the channels.

League Table Impact

The win lifts Leones Negros FC into a stronger position in the Liga Premier Serie standings and extends a promising run of form on the road. For Real Refineros, the defeat is a frustrating one — they competed for long spells and scored twice, but defensive lapses in the closing stages cost them at least a share of the points.

With the season moving into its decisive phase, narrow margins like these will decide who competes for promotion and who settles for mid-table comfort.
