Racing de Veracruz 3-3 Deportiva Venados — a six-goal thriller unfolded in MEX Liga Premier Serie action on Sunday, September 20, 2026, as Racing de Veracruz and Deportiva Venados traded blows in a 3-3 draw that will be remembered for its relentless pace and late drama. The hosts twice held the lead, the visitors from Mérida refused to lie down, and by the final whistle both sides had collected a point that tells a very different story about each team's season so far.

It was the kind of match that swings on small details: a deflected clearance here, a tired leg there, and a set-piece that neither defence could fully control. Racing de Veracruz looked the sharper side for long spells, but Deportiva Venados showed the resilience that has made them one of the more awkward away opponents in the division.

Tactical Story of the Match

Racing de Veracruz set up in a 4-3-3 and pressed aggressively in the opening half-hour, targeting the space behind Deportiva Venados' wing-backs. It worked for long stretches: the home side won the ball high, created turnovers in dangerous areas and forced the visitors into a string of hurried clearances. Cárdenas and Acevedo rotated well between the lines, pulling the Venados midfield out of shape.

Deportiva Venados adjusted after the break, dropping into a more compact 5-3-2 and inviting pressure before springing forward on the counter. That shift produced the equaliser at 2-2 and kept them alive late on. The trade-off was territorial dominance for Racing, and the home side's inability to kill the game off — a recurring theme in their recent fixtures — ultimately cost them two points.

Fatigue also played a role. Racing's press lost its intensity after the 70th minute, and the visitors, who had travelled up from Yucatán, managed their legs well enough to keep pushing bodies forward for the equaliser.

Standout Performers

• Kevin Acevedo (Racing de Veracruz): Sharp, direct and clinical for the opener. His movement between the lines was a constant problem for the Venados back three.
• Luis Ángel Cárdenas (Racing de Veracruz): Held his nerve from twelve yards and linked play intelligently throughout.
• Rodrigo Canché (Deportiva Venados): A towering presence in both boxes, and the source of his side's first foothold in the match.
• Alejandro Pech (Deportiva Venados): In the right place at the right time for the 88th-minute equaliser — a poacher's finish that defined his team's refusal to fold.

What the Result Means

The draw keeps both clubs in the congested middle of the MEX Liga Premier Serie table, where a couple of wins can lift a team into the promotion conversation and a couple of defeats can drag it back towards the chasing pack. For Racing de Veracruz, the frustration is obvious: they led twice at home and created enough chances to take all three points. Dropping points from winning positions is exactly the kind of habit that separates liguilla contenders from mid-table finishers in this division.

For Deportiva Venados, the point has a different flavour. Coming from behind twice on the road, against a side that pressed them so aggressively early on, is a genuine marker of character. Their away form this season has been built on that resilience, and a late equaliser can carry mo
