Delfines set up in a 4-3-3, looking to use width and pace to stretch the Real Refineros defence. The visitors opted for a compact 4-4-2, aiming to soak up pressure and strike on the break. The humidity and warm conditions made for a lively, fast-paced contest from the outset.

First Half: Delfines Start Brightly

The home side needed just 12 minutes to break the deadlock. A driving run from midfielder Luis Martínez drew three defenders before he played a neat one-two with Jesús Hernández, who fired low into the bottom corner. The early goal settled Delfines, and they continued to press.

Real Refineros responded well, using their physical presence in midfield to win the ball back. Their equaliser arrived in the 28th minute when a long ball over the top found Carlos Ramírez, who raced clear and finished calmly past the onrushing goalkeeper. It was a sucker punch for the hosts, who had been the better side.

Delfines regained their composure and nearly restored their lead before half-time, but a header from a corner crashed off the crossbar. The teams went into the break level at 1-1, with the game finely poised.

Second Half: Goals, Drama, and Missed Chances

The second half began at a frantic pace. Delfines retook the lead in the 52nd minute through a moment of individual brilliance. Jesús Hernández picked up the ball 25 yards from goal, shifted it onto his left foot, and curled a stunning strike into the top corner. It was a goal worthy of winning any match.

Real Refineros refused to lie down. They pushed men forward and got their reward in the 67th minute. A swift counter-attack ended with Miguel Torres squaring the ball for Jorge Díaz, who tapped in from six yards out. The away fans erupted as their team drew level for the second time.

Both sides had chances to win it. Delfines’ Oscar Villalobos forced a superb save from the Real Refineros goalkeeper in the 78th minute, while at the other end, a last-ditch tackle from Pedro Sánchez denied Ramírez a second goal. In stoppage time, Real Refineros thought they had won it, but a goal was correctly ruled out for offside.

Tactical Analysis

Delfines’ 4-3-3 gave them control in midfield, with Hernández dropping deep to link play. Their full-backs pushed high, creating width, but this also left them exposed to counter-attacks. Real Refineros exploited this with direct vertical passes and the pace of Ramírez and Díaz.

The visitors’ 4-4-2 was disciplined defensively, but they struggled to keep possession for long spells. Their equalisers came from quick transitions, highlighting their strength on the break. Delfines’ inability to manage the game after taking the lead proved costly, as they conceded shortly after scoring both times.
