UNAM Pumas Women 2-0 Puebla Women: Pumas Secure Dominant Liga MX Femenil Win

UNAM Pumas Women claimed a convincing 2-0 victory over Puebla Women in the Mexico Liga MX Femenil on Monday, September 21, 2026. Two first-half goals set the tone at Estadio Olímpico Universitario, and the home side managed the game professionally to secure all three points.

Pumas were sharper from the opening whistle, pressing high and moving the ball with purpose. Puebla Women struggled to keep possession and spent much of the match chasing the game.

Match Overview

The hosts took the lead early and never looked back. Their midfield controlled the tempo, and the front three caused constant problems with their movement and pace. Puebla’s defence held on bravely for spells but could not prevent a second goal before halftime.

In the second half, Pumas managed the contest intelligently. They kept the ball, limited Puebla’s counterattacking chances, and came close to adding a third on several occasions. The clean sheet was another positive on a strong night for the university side.

Key Moments

• 12th minute: UNAM Pumas Women opened the scoring when Daniela García finished neatly after a flowing team move down the left.
• 39th minute: Alicia Cervantes doubled the lead with a powerful strike from the edge of the area after Puebla failed to clear a corner.
• 63rd minute: Puebla Women’s best chance came on the break, but the Pumas goalkeeper stood tall to save.
• 81st minute: Pumas nearly scored a third, only for the Puebla goalkeeper to tip a curling effort over the bar.

Tactical Story

Pumas lined up with a high press and looked to win the ball back quickly in Puebla’s half. Their wide players stretched the defence, creating space for central runners. The early goal allowed them to settle and dictate terms.

Puebla Women tried to defend in a compact block and counter through their wingers, but they were often isolated. When they did win the ball, they lacked support in transition. Pumas’ defensive midfielders screened the back four effectively, ensuring the away side had few clear sights of goal.

Standout Players

Daniela García was excellent for UNAM Pumas Women, scoring the opener and constantly troubling the Puebla defence with her runs. Alicia Cervantes added the second and linked play well. The Pumas goalkeeper was alert when called upon and deserved her clean sheet.

For Puebla Women, the goalkeeper made several good saves to prevent a heavier defeat, while their captain tried to organise the defence under constant pressure.

Liga MX Femenil Table Impact

The win strengthens UNAM Pumas Women’s position in the Liga MX Femenil table and adds to their momentum in the ongoing season. A two-goal victory and a clean sheet will boost confidence ahead of a challenging run of fixtures. Puebla Women remain in need of points and will focus on improving their defensive organisation and attacking transitions.

For Pumas, the performance was a clear statement of intent: disciplined, creative, and ruthless when chances arrived. For Puebla, it is a night to learn from and move on quickly.
