Cruz Azul Women and Chivas Guadalajara Women produced a tightly contested Liga MX Femenil encounter on September 26, 2026, but it was the visitors who left with all three points after a 1-0 victory. A single second-half goal proved enough for Chivas, who combined defensive discipline with one moment of attacking quality to edge a Cruz Azul side that pushed hard but lacked the final touch in front of goal.

Match Overview

Played at Cruz Azul’s home base in Mexico City, the match followed the pattern many expected from two teams with contrasting recent form. Cruz Azul Women started brightly, pressing high and forcing Chivas Guadalajara Women into several early clearances. The home side enjoyed more of the ball in the opening half, but Chivas’ back line stayed compact and limited clear sights of goal.

Chivas grew into the game as the first half wore on. Their midfield began to win second balls, and the front line started to find space behind Cruz Azul’s full-backs. The decisive moment arrived in the second half, when a quick combination opened the Cruz Azul defense and allowed Chivas to score the only goal of the game. From there, the visitors managed the match with maturity, slowing the tempo and protecting their lead.

Key Moments

• 18th minute: Cruz Azul created the first real chance, with a low cross flashing across the Chivas six-yard box before being cleared.
• 32nd minute: Chivas goalkeeper Blanca Félix made a sharp save to deny a close-range effort, keeping the score level.
• 63rd minute: The breakthrough came for Chivas. Alicia Cervantes timed her run perfectly, received the ball inside the area, and finished calmly past the Cruz Azul goalkeeper.
• 78th minute: Cruz Azul thought they had a route back into the match, but a goal was ruled out for offside after a lengthy check.
• 90+3 minutes: Chivas defender Kinberly Guzmán produced a crucial clearance as Cruz Azul sent numbers forward in search of an equalizer.

Tactical Story

Cruz Azul Women lined up with an aggressive 4-2-3-1 shape, looking to press Chivas high and force turnovers in the attacking third. The plan worked in patches, especially during the opening 25 minutes, but Cruz Azul struggled to turn possession into clear chances. Their wingers found space out wide, yet the final ball too often went astray or was met by a well-positioned Chivas defense.

Chivas Guadalajara Women were more patient. They defended in a compact 4-3-3, invited pressure, and looked to strike on the counter. Carolina Jaramillo was influential in linking midfield and attack, while Cervantes’ movement kept the Cruz Azul center-backs occupied throughout. Once Chivas took the lead, their game management was excellent, with smart fouls, slow restarts, and disciplined positioning frustrating the home side.

Standout Players

Alicia Cervantes was the match-winner for Chivas. The veteran striker needed only one clear opportunity, and her finish highlighted why she remains one of the most reliable forwards in Liga MX Femenil. Carolina Jaramillo controlled the tempo in midfield, while Blanca Félix made important saves at 0-0 to keep Chivas level before the breakthrough.

For Cruz Azul Women, the goalkeeper kept the score respectable with several strong stops, and the center-back pairing dealt with long spells of pressure. However, the attacking unit lacked sharpness in the final third. Too many crosses were overhit, and the few shots that did test Félix were from distance.

Liga MX Femenil Standings Impact

The win strengthens Chivas Guadalajara Women’s position in the upper half of the Liga MX Femenil standings and keeps them in the conversation for a top-four finish. For Cruz Azul Women, the defeat is a missed opportunity to climb the table and close the gap on the playoff places. In a league where goal difference and head-to-head records often decide seeding, every home match carries extra weight.

Chivas will take confidence from a professional away performance, especially with tougher fixtures ahead. Cruz Azul, meanwhile, must find more creativity in the final third if they are to turn narrow losses into points. The result leaves both teams with clear priorities: Chivas chasing consistency near the top, and Cruz Azul searching for a sharper attacking edge.
