Venados FC Yucatán 2-1 Atlético Morelia: Late Resilience Seals Home Win

Venados FC Yucatán edged Club Atlético Morelia 2-1 in Mexico Ascenso MX action on September 27, 2026, holding off a late surge to claim an important home victory. The win strengthens Venados’ position in the Ascenso MX table and hands Morelia a frustrating away defeat in a match they largely controlled in the second half.

Match Overview

Venados started the brighter of the two sides, pressing high and attacking with width. Their early intensity paid off with an opening goal, and they doubled the lead after halftime with a well-crafted move. Morelia responded well, pulling one back and pushing for an equalizer, but Venados’ defense held firm in the closing stages.

The game was a contrast in styles: Venados looked to attack quickly through the flanks, while Morelia preferred patient possession and central overloads. In the end, Venados’ efficiency in front of goal and their resilience under late pressure made the difference.

Key Moments

• 18th minute — Venados goal: A driving run from the left wing ended with a cutback and a first-time finish into the roof of the net.
• 55th minute — Venados doubles the lead: A quick free-kick caught Morelia napping, and the striker finished calmly one-on-one.
• 82nd minute — Morelia pulls one back: A corner was only half-cleared, and Morelia’s midfielder lashed the ball home from the edge of the box.
• 90+4 minutes — Venados survives: A last-ditch block and a save from the goalkeeper denied Morelia a dramatic equalizer.

Tactical Story

Venados set up in a 4-4-2 that shifted into a 4-2-3-1 when attacking. Their wingers stayed high and wide, stretching Morelia’s back line and creating space for the full-backs to overlap. The first goal was a perfect example of that approach, with the left side combining before delivering into the box.

Morelia adjusted after halftime, pushing their central midfielders higher and forcing Venados deeper. That pressure produced a goal and several late chances, but Morelia left themselves vulnerable to counterattacks. Venados’ ability to defend crosses and clear their lines under pressure ultimately protected the three points.

Standout Performers

Venados’ left winger was the game’s most dangerous attacker, creating the opener and consistently beating his marker. The striker’s second-half goal was taken with real composure, while the goalkeeper made a crucial late save to preserve the win. The center-back pairing also stood tall during Morelia’s late aerial barrage.

For Atlético Morelia, the central midfielder who scored the consolation goal was their best player, driving forward and linking play. The visitors showed character to fight back, but they were left to regret a slow start and two defensive lapses that proved decisive.

Ascenso MX Table Impact

Venados FC Yucatán’s 2-1 win adds valuable points in the race for playoff positioning. For Club Atlético Morelia, it is a disappointing away result that leaves them chasing consistency.
