Tlaxcala FC 2-0 Correcaminos de la U.A.T.: Tlaxcala FC secured an important home victory in the Mexico Ascenso MX, defeating Correcaminos de la U.A.T. 2-0 at the Estadio Tlahuicole. Goals from Diego Aguilar and Luis Carrión either side of half-time gave the hosts a deserved three points and strengthened their push for a playoff place.

A disciplined home performance

Tlaxcala began with purpose, pressing Correcaminos high and forcing errors in the visiting back line. The home side’s best early chances came from set pieces, and it was no surprise when Aguilar opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a powerful header from a corner. Correcaminos responded with a spell of possession but struggled to break down a compact Tlaxcala defence.

The visitors were handed a golden opportunity to equalise in the 55th minute when they were awarded a penalty, but Tlaxcala goalkeeper Óscar Torres produced a fine save to preserve the lead. That moment proved decisive. Tlaxcala grew in confidence and doubled their advantage in the 71st minute through Carrión, who finished a rapid counter-attack with a low drive into the far corner.

Key moments

• 23’ – Goal, Diego Aguilar: A towering header from a corner gave Tlaxcala the lead.
• 55’ – Penalty saved: Óscar Torres denied Correcaminos the equaliser with a strong save to his left.
• 71’ – Goal, Luis Carrión: A fast break ended with a composed finish to make it 2-0.
• 84’ – Late pressure: Correcaminos pushed forward but could not find a way through.

Tactical story

Tlaxcala set up in a compact 4-4-2, inviting Correcaminos to play through the middle before springing forward on the counter. The midfield pairing protected the back four well, and the wide players worked tirelessly to close down crossing angles. Correcaminos enjoyed more possession but lacked penetration in the final third, often settling for speculative shots from distance.

The penalty save shifted the momentum. Tlaxcala became more aggressive in transition, and Carrión’s goal rewarded their tactical discipline. In the closing stages, the hosts dropped deeper and protected their clean sheet with maturity.

Standout players

Diego Aguilar led the line superbly, winning aerial duels and scoring the crucial opener. Luis Carrión provided energy and end product, while goalkeeper Óscar Torres was the hero of the second half. For Correcaminos, the midfield worked hard but the attack lacked a cutting edge.

What it means for the Ascenso MX table

The win moves Tlaxcala into the playoff places and gives them valuable momentum in a tightly packed Ascenso MX race. Correcaminos remain in search of consistency, particularly away from home, where their attacking output has been limited. Tlaxcala’s home form is becoming a major asset, and another three points here could prove crucial at the end of the season.

With a solid defensive structure and a goalkeeper in excellent form, Tlaxcala FC look capable of challenging for promotion. This 2-0 victory was a professional, well-managed performance.
