Alebrijes de Oaxaca claimed a 2-1 away victory over Leones Negros de la U. de G. in Mexico Ascenso MX, producing a composed second-half performance that underlined their credentials as a side capable of grinding out results on the road. Leones Negros had their moments in front of a passionate home crowd, but Alebrijes found the decisive goal late in the contest to take all three points.

Alebrijes Edge a Competitive Encounter

The match began with both teams looking to impose their rhythm in midfield, and the opening exchanges were played at a brisk tempo. Leones Negros tried to use the width of the pitch to stretch Alebrijes, while the visitors looked to press high and force mistakes in the home side’s build-up. That approach paid off midway through the first half when Alebrijes opened the scoring after a quick turnover in the attacking third.

Leones Negros responded well to the setback and equalized before the break, lifting the home crowd and setting up an intriguing second half. The game became more open after the interval, with both sides committing numbers forward in search of the winner. Alebrijes managed the closing stages better, slowing the tempo when needed and striking the decisive blow with a well-worked move that left the Leones Negros defense exposed.

Match Overview

Leones Negros saw more of the ball in the final third but struggled to break down a well-organized Alebrijes defense. The visitors were happy to concede possession in less dangerous areas and relied on quick counterattacks to create their best chances. Alebrijes’ midfield worked tirelessly to close down space, and their forward line showed good movement to pull the home defense out of position.

The goalkeepers were involved throughout, with Leones Negros’ shot-stopper making a strong save early in the second half to keep the scores level. At the other end, Alebrijes’ goalkeeper was called into action late on and dealt comfortably with a series of crosses into the box. The match was decided by fine margins, and Alebrijes’ greater efficiency in front of goal proved the difference.

Key Moments

• Opening goal: Alebrijes capitalized on a loose pass in midfield and finished clinically from the edge of the area.
• Leones Negros equalizer: A driven cross from the left was met with a firm header that beat the goalkeeper.
• Second-half save: Leones Negros’ goalkeeper produced a reflex stop to deny Alebrijes a second goal from close range.
• Late winner: Alebrijes worked the ball into the box and found the bottom corner with a low strike in the closing stages.

Tactical Story

Leones Negros set up with a possession-based approach, looking to build patiently from the back and use their midfield to create overloads on the flanks. Alebrijes, by contrast, adopted a more pragmatic 4-4-2 shape out of possession, pressing selectively and looking to spring forward on the break. That tactical contrast made for an engaging contest, with Leones Negros dictating the ball and Alebrijes threatening whenever they won it back.

The decisive tactical adjustment came in the second half, when Alebrijes pushed their wingers higher and instructed their central midfielders to close down Leones Negros’ deep-lying playmaker. That change disrupted the home side’s rhythm and allowed Alebrijes to create more turnovers in dangerous areas. Leones Negros responded by bringing on fresh legs in attack, but the substitution did not have the desired impact as Alebrijes’ defense held firm.

Standout Players

Alebrijes’ central midfielder was the engine of the team, combining energy with intelligent positioning and providing the assist for the winning goal. Their center-forward also impressed with his hold-up play, bringing teammates into the game and occupying the Leones Negros center-backs. At the back, Alebrijes’ right-back was solid in one-on-one situations and made several important clearances in the final minutes.

For Leones Negros, the left winger was their most consistent attacking threat, repeatedly beating his marker and delivering dangerous crosses into the box. Their central defender produced a strong display despite the defeat, winning headers and stepping out of defense to intercept passes. The home side’s goalkeeper also deserves credit for keeping the score level with a series of sharp saves.

Season Impact

The win strengthens Alebrijes de Oaxaca’s position in the Mexico Ascenso MX table and gives them valuable momentum as the season progresses. For Leones Negros de la U. de G., the defeat is a frustrating setback, particularly after an encouraging first-half response. The home side will need to convert possession into clearer chances if they are to challenge for promotion at the top end of the division.
