Alebrijes de Oaxaca edged Correcaminos de la U.A.T. 2-1 in a tightly contested Ascenso MX encounter, turning a tense, physical night at the Estadio Tecnológico de Oaxaca into three valuable points. The home side took the lead, survived a determined second-half response from the visitors from Ciudad Victoria, and then found the decisive goal to close out a result that keeps them firmly in the conversation in the Liga de Expansión MX table.

It was a match that reflected everything the Mexican second tier is known for: quick transitions, heavy pressing in midfield, and a final twenty minutes played at full throttle as both benches emptied and the tempo refused to drop.

Match Overview

Alebrijes came into the fixture with the clear intention of controlling possession in the middle third and attacking down the flanks, and that approach paid off early. The home midfield circulated the ball quickly, drawing Correcaminos out of shape before releasing runners into the channels behind a back line that sat relatively deep.

Correcaminos, for their part, arrived with a compact 4-4-2 shape designed to frustrate and counter. The Tamaulipas side defended in a disciplined block for long stretches, looking to spring their forwards on the break and to profit from set pieces — a strategy that nearly produced a second equaliser in the closing stages.

Key Moments

First half. Alebrijes set the tone inside the opening quarter of an hour, pressing high and forcing Correcaminos into a series of hurried clearances. The breakthrough came from exactly the pattern the coaching staff had drilled: a recycled ball on the right, a whipped cross into the penalty area, and a first-time finish that left the visiting goalkeeper with no chance. Correcaminos responded well, tightening their midfield line and forcing two smart saves before the interval.

Second half. The visitors came out re-energised and were rewarded for their ambition. A well-worked move down the left pulled the Oaxaca defence across, and the resulting finish from the edge of the box levelled the scoreline and silenced the home crowd. For a ten-minute spell, Correcaminos looked the more likely side to go ahead.

The momentum swung back when Alebrijes introduced fresh legs in wide areas. The substitutes stretched the Correcaminos back line, and the winner arrived late — a sharp, opportunistic finish after a scramble in the box following a corner that was only half cleared. The closing minutes were frantic, with the visitors throwing bodies forward, but Oaxaca's back line held firm.

Tactical Story

• Width versus compactness: Alebrijes consistently overloaded the flanks, while Correcaminos tried to funnel play into central areas where their midfielders could double up.
• Set pieces decided it: Two of the three goals came from dead-ball situations or second phases after them, underlining how decisive restarts are in the Ascenso MX.
• Bench impact: The home side's substitutions changed the rhythm of the final twenty minutes, adding pace exactly when the game had begun to drift.
• Game management: Oaxaca's ability to slow the tempo in stoppage time — winning free kicks, keeping possession in the corners — was the difference between a win and a nervy draw.

Standout Performers

The Alebrijes goalkeeper produced the most important moment of the night, denying Correcaminos an equaliser at 1-1 with a reaction save from close range. In front of him, the central defensive pairing dealt well with the visitors' direct approach, winning the majority of aerial duels in the final third.

In midfield, Oaxaca's deeper-lying playmaker dictated the tempo, completing the bulk of his passes and repeatedly switching the point of attack. Up front, the goalscorers will take the headlines, but the tireless running of the wide forwards created the space in which both goals were manufactured.

For Correcaminos, the left-sided attacker was the outstanding performer, driving at defenders throughout and capping his display with the goal that briefly brought his team level. Their captain organised the defensive block intelligently and kept his teammates disciplined even after falling behind late.
