DPMM FC produced a stunning away performance to defeat Terengganu FC 3-1 in the Malaysian FA Cup on September 16, 2026, at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium. The Brunei-based side advanced to the next round with a clinical and disciplined display that silenced the home crowd.

Match Overview

The Malaysian FA Cup is one of the most prestigious knockout competitions in Southeast Asian football, and Terengganu FC entered the tie as favourites. However, DPMM FC, known for their tactical discipline and counter-attacking style, had other ideas. From the opening whistle, the visitors pressed high and refused to let Terengganu settle into their passing rhythm.

Terengganu struggled to cope with DPMM’s intensity in the first half. The home side’s midfield was overrun at times, and their defence looked vulnerable to quick breaks. DPMM took full advantage, scoring twice before the break to take a commanding lead into halftime.

Key Moments

DPMM opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Hakeme Said latched onto a through ball, rounded the goalkeeper, and slotted into an empty net. The stadium fell silent as the away fans celebrated. Terengganu tried to respond immediately, but their attacks were repelled by a well-organised DPMM backline.

In the 38th minute, DPMM doubled their lead. A quick counter-attack down the left ended with a low cross that Hakeme Said converted for his second goal of the night. Terengganu pulled one back in the 61st minute through a header from a corner, giving the home crowd hope. But DPMM restored their two-goal cushion in the 74th minute when Nur Ikhwan Othman curled a shot into the far corner from the edge of the box. Terengganu pushed forward late, but DPMM’s defence held firm.

Tactical Story

DPMM FC set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their front three pressing Terengganu’s centre-backs aggressively. The midfield trio sat deep when defending, forming a compact block that forced Terengganu to play wide, where crosses were easily cleared. When they won the ball, DPMM transitioned quickly, using the pace of their wide forwards to exploit the space behind Terengganu’s attacking full-backs.

Terengganu, playing a 4-2-3-1, struggled to find space between the lines. Their playmaker was marked out of the game, and their strikers were isolated. The home side’s manager made attacking substitutions in the second half, but DPMM’s defensive organisation remained intact. The visitors’ ability to absorb pressure and counter with precision was the defining factor of the match.

Standout Players

• Hakeme Said (DPMM FC): Scored twice and was a constant menace with his pace and finishing.
• Nur Ikhwan Othman (DPMM FC): Added the third goal and controlled the midfield with his passing and energy.
• Fadzrul Danel (DPMM FC): The goalkeeper made several important saves, especially in the second half, to deny Terengganu a comeback.

Season Impact

The victory sends DPMM FC into the next round of the Malaysian FA Cup, where they will face another tough opponent. For Terengganu FC, the defeat is a major disappointment, as they had hoped to mount a serious challenge for the trophy. The result also highlights DPMM’s growing reputation as a dangerous cup side, capable of upsetting stronger teams on their day. Terengganu must now regroup and focus on their league campaign, while DPMM will celebrate a memorable away win.
