SCCM Chabab Mohamedia and OCK Olympique de Khouribga played out a 1-1 draw in Morocco Botola 2 on Sunday night, a result that leaves both sides with plenty to reflect on in a tightly contested promotion and survival battle. Mohamedia struck first, but Khouribga’s response after the break earned them a share of the points in a match that grew more open as it progressed.

Match overview

The hosts started with more intent, pressing high and forcing Khouribga into several early clearances. Mohamedia’s midfield worked the ball quickly through the half-spaces, and their reward arrived when a well-timed run into the box was picked out for the opening goal. Khouribga, however, stayed composed and gradually found a foothold in the game.

• Full-time: SCCM Chabab Mohamedia 1-1 OCK Olympique de Khouribga
• Competition: Morocco Botola 2
• Turning point: Khouribga’s equaliser early in the second half

Key moments

Mohamedia’s opener came after a patient build-up down the left. The ball was worked inside, and a clever reverse pass opened the defence for a low finish. Khouribga responded before the break with a headed chance from a corner, but the equaliser did not arrive until after the interval. A quick transition caught Mohamedia’s back line slightly out of shape, and the visitors finished calmly to make it 1-1.

Both sides had chances to win it. Mohamedia’s best opportunity came from a free-kick that clipped the top of the crossbar, while Khouribga forced a sharp save from the home goalkeeper in the closing stages. In the end, neither team could find a decisive second goal.

Tactical story

Mohamedia’s approach was built on quick combinations and aggressive pressing, but that intensity dipped after the hour mark. Khouribga adjusted by pushing their wingers higher and targeting the space behind the full-backs. The visitors’ midfield also began to win more second balls, which allowed them to sustain pressure and keep Mohamedia from controlling the tempo.

The draw was a fair reflection of the balance of play. Mohamedia had the better first half, while Khouribga were the more dangerous side after the break. Both managers made attacking changes in search of a winner, but the defensive units held firm when it mattered most.

Standout performers

Mohamedia’s attacking midfielder, Yassine El Amrani, was central to his side’s best moments, linking play and creating the opener with a sharp pass. Khouribga’s Hamza Boukhriss grew into the game in midfield and drove his team forward in the second half. Both goalkeepers also made important interventions in a contest that could easily have produced more goals.

What the result means

In the Morocco Botola 2 table, the point keeps both clubs in the thick of a crowded race where consistency is proving difficult to find. Mohamedia will feel they let two points slip after a strong start, while Khouribga can take encouragement from a resilient away performance. With the season still offering room to climb, this was a night that underlined how fine the margins are in the second tier.
