Olympique de Safi edged Ittihad Zemmouri Khemisset 1-0 in the Morocco Botola 2 on October 18, 2026, earning a narrow but important home win at the Stade El Massira. A second-half goal settled a closely contested match and gave Safi three valuable points in the race for promotion.

Match overview

The first half was tight and cautious, with both teams prioritizing defensive solidity. Safi controlled more of the ball but found it difficult to break through Khemisset’s compact defensive block. The visitors looked to counterattack and had a couple of half-chances, but neither goalkeeper was seriously tested before the break.

Safi raised their intensity in the second half and were rewarded just before the hour mark. A well-delivered cross from the right was met by a powerful header, and the ball crossed the line despite the goalkeeper’s best efforts. Khemisset pushed for an equalizer late on, but Safi defended resolutely to protect their lead.

Key moments

• First half: Both sides were cautious, with Safi dominating possession but struggling to create clear openings.
• 57th minute: Safi scored the breakthrough goal with a strong header from a right-sided cross.
• 70th–85th minutes: Khemisset increased the pressure and forced several corners, but Safi’s defence held firm.
• Stoppage time: Safi cleared a late free-kick and managed the final moments calmly.

Tactical story

Safi’s approach was patient and controlled. They circulated the ball, looked for openings on the wings and tried to pull Khemisset’s defenders out of position. The visitors defended deep and in numbers, making it difficult for Safi to find space centrally.

The decisive adjustment came from Safi’s willingness to attack more directly in the second half. They delivered more crosses and got more bodies into the box, which eventually paid off. Khemisset responded by pushing forward, but that left gaps that Safi could have exploited on the counter. In the end, the home side’s game management was enough.

Standout players

Safi’s goalscorer was the obvious hero, showing strength and timing to convert the decisive header. The right-sided defender also impressed with his delivery and defensive work, while the goalkeeper made a crucial late save to preserve the clean sheet.

Khemisset’s goalkeeper kept his team in the match with several saves, and their central defenders battled hard. However, the visitors lacked the final touch in attack and were unable to turn late pressure into an equalizer.

Season impact

The win is a significant one for Olympique de Safi in the Morocco Botola 2, where home victories are essential for promotion ambitions. It keeps them competitive in the upper part of the table and reinforces their defensive strength.

For Ittihad Zemmouri Khemisset, the defeat is a frustrating one. They competed well and defended stubbornly for long periods, but they will need more attacking quality in away matches if they are to climb the standings. Safi, meanwhile, can enjoy a hard-earned and valuable three points.
