Staf USM FC 2-0 Bunga Raya — Staf USM FC produced a controlled 2-0 victory over Bunga Raya in the Malaysia A1 Semi-Pro League on Friday, 23 October 2026, with goals in either half securing three valuable points at USM Stadium.

The hosts were the more assertive side from the opening whistle, moving the ball quickly through midfield and creating chances with regularity. Bunga Raya defended in numbers and threatened occasionally on the break, but Staf USM FC’s patience and structure ultimately earned a deserved win.

Match overview

Staf USM FC lined up in a 4-3-3, with the wide forwards stretching Bunga Raya’s back line and the midfield trio controlling the tempo. Bunga Raya set up in a deeper 5-4-1 shape, hoping to absorb pressure and hit on the counter. The early pattern was clear: USM had the ball, while Bunga Raya looked to stay compact and deny space in behind.

The breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Muhammad Firdaus Ismail found room at the edge of the penalty area and placed a low shot into the bottom corner. It was a goal that reflected USM’s control and their willingness to commit numbers forward without losing defensive balance.

Key moments

• 11’ — Staf USM FC’s first clear chance: a header from a corner is cleared off the line.
• 34’ — Muhammad Firdaus Ismail opens the scoring with a precise low finish from outside the box.
• 52’ — Bunga Raya’s best moment of the match, but their forward drags a shot wide after a quick counter.
• 78’ — Danial Hakim doubles the lead with a header from a well-delivered cross.
• 86’ — Staf USM FC manage the closing minutes with a series of composed passes and a solid defensive block.

Tactical story

Staf USM FC’s midfield control was the foundation of the win. Their central players rotated well, creating passing angles and allowing the full-backs to push forward. Bunga Raya struggled to close down the space between midfield and defence, and that allowed USM to sustain attacks for long spells.

Bunga Raya’s defensive approach kept the game competitive until the second goal, but their lack of possession made it difficult to build momentum. When they did win the ball, their counters were often isolated. USM’s ability to counter-press and win the ball back quickly limited Bunga Raya’s opportunities to break.

The second goal was a reward for USM’s persistence. A wide overload created space for the cross, and Danial Hakim’s movement in the box gave him the chance to head home. From there, the hosts managed the game intelligently, slowing the tempo and protecting their clean sheet.

Standout performers

Muhammad Firdaus Ismail was the game’s most influential attacker, linking midfield and attack and scoring the crucial opener. Danial Hakim added the second goal and worked tirelessly off the ball. Staf USM FC goalkeeper Aqil Zulkifli also played his part with a calm display, dealing confidently with the few crosses and set pieces that came his way.

What the win means

The three points lift Staf USM FC in the Malaysia A1 Semi-Pro League standings and strengthen their position in the competition’s upper group. For Bunga Raya, the defeat leaves them searching for a response, particularly in attack, where they struggled to test the USM goalkeeper often enough.

Staf USM FC’s home form is becoming a key asset, and this performance showed both control and cutting edge. If they can maintain that balance away from home, they will remain a difficult team to beat as the A1 Semi-Pro League season develops. Bunga Raya, meanwhile, will need to find more creativity in possession if they are to turn narrow defeats into points.
