Kelantan City 1-1 AAK-UNISEL: Honours Even in Malaysia A1 Semi-Pro League Battle

Kelantan City and AAK-UNISEL played out a 1-1 draw in the Malaysia A1 Semi-Pro League on Saturday, 17 October 2026. Kelantan City took the lead, but AAK-UNISEL responded with a second-half equaliser to earn a share of the points in a match that remained competitive until the final whistle.

The result reflects a closely matched contest. Both sides had spells on top, and while Kelantan City will be disappointed not to hold on to their advantage, AAK-UNISEL showed character to fight back and take something from the game.

Match overview

Kelantan City started with purpose and looked to impose themselves early. Their midfield pressed well and their wide players caused problems, forcing AAK-UNISEL to defend in numbers during the opening half-hour.

AAK-UNISEL grew into the match after the interval and began to find more space in midfield. The equaliser gave them renewed belief, and the closing stages saw both teams push for a winner without finding the decisive moment.

Key moments

• 22nd minute: Kelantan City opened the scoring with a well-placed finish after building pressure around the AAK-UNISEL penalty area.
• 38th minute: AAK-UNISEL threatened from a set piece, but the effort was cleared away.
• 61st minute: AAK-UNISEL equalised with a composed finish after a quick attacking move caught Kelantan City out.
• 85th minute: Both sides had late chances, but neither goalkeeper was beaten again.

Tactical story

Kelantan City’s first-half approach was aggressive and positive. They pressed high, won second balls and tried to pin AAK-UNISEL back. That strategy worked well for long spells and produced the opening goal, but it became harder to sustain as the match wore on.

AAK-UNISEL adjusted after the break, holding possession more carefully and attacking with greater patience. Their equaliser came from a move that stretched Kelantan City’s defence, and from that point on the visitors looked the more settled side.

Standout performers

Kelantan City’s attacking players were at the heart of their better moments, particularly during the first half when they created the clearest openings. The goalkeeper also made an important stop late on to prevent AAK-UNISEL from completing the turnaround.

For AAK-UNISEL, the midfield response after half-time was crucial. The equaliser rewarded their improved control, and their defenders handled some late pressure well. It was a performance built on resilience rather than dominance, but it earned a useful point.

What it means

The draw gives both teams something to build on in the Malaysia A1 Semi-Pro League. Kelantan City will rue not turning their first-half superiority into a bigger lead, while AAK-UNISEL will take confidence from their second-half comeback.

With the points shared, the focus now shifts to the next round of fixtures. Kelantan City need to find a way to close out games after taking the lead, and AAK-UNISEL will want to turn their improved second-half displays into stronger starts.
