Tactical Story

Swieqi's 4-3-3 shape allowed them to dominate the wide areas, with full-backs pushing high and wingers drifting inside to create overloads. San Gwann tried to defend in a deep block, but they struggled to cope with Swieqi's quick ball circulation and relentless pressing.

The midfield trio of Swieqi won nearly every second ball and kept San Gwann pinned back. Whenever San Gwann attempted to counter, Swieqi's defensive line stepped up aggressively to squeeze the space.

Standout Players

Maya Cachia was the obvious star of the show, scoring three goals and constantly threatening with her movement. Elena Farrugia added two goals and an assist, while Nicole Sciberras controlled the tempo in midfield. Leah Ayres was strong defensively and also contributed a goal from a set piece.

San Gwann goalkeeper Francesca Borg deserves credit for several saves that prevented an even heavier defeat. Captain Maria Farrugia worked hard in midfield but was often overwhelmed by Swieqi's numerical advantage in central areas.

What the Result Means

Swieqi United Women significantly improved their goal difference and sent a clear message to the rest of the Malta Women's Division 1. After losing to Hibernians earlier in the week, this was the perfect response. San Gwann FC Women will need to regroup quickly, as the defeat leaves them with plenty of work to do in the coming fixtures.
