FC Differdange 03 made light work of Jeunesse Useldange in the Luxembourg Cup on Sunday evening, running out 5-1 winners at the Stade rue de la Gare. The visitors, from Luxembourg's top flight, were clinical in front of goal and never looked in danger of an upset.

The result sends Differdange into the hat for the next round, while Useldange's cup adventure comes to an end in the third round.

Match Overview

Differdange took the lead as early as the 8th minute when striker Yannick Bastos slotted home from inside the box after a neat through ball. The floodgates opened from there. Midfielder Kevin Dargent doubled the advantage in the 23rd minute with a powerful drive from 25 yards, and Bastos added his second in the 37th minute, finishing off a flowing team move.

Useldange pulled one back against the run of play in the 41st minute through a header from a corner, briefly giving the home crowd hope. But any thoughts of a comeback were extinguished just before half-time when Differdange's winger Chris Saba made it 4-1 with a composed finish.

The second half was more subdued, with Differdange controlling the tempo and adding a fifth goal in the 72nd minute through substitute Ahmed Mahjoub. Useldange never gave up, but they were simply outclassed by a superior opponent.

Cup Run Implications

Differdange 03 will now look forward to the next round draw, where they will be among the favourites to progress. As a National Division side, they have the quality to go deep in the competition, and this convincing win will boost their confidence.
