FK Vilnius Women and Gintra Universitetas Women played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Lithuanian Women's A Lyga on Sunday, 18 October 2026, with Gintra twice recovering from a losing position to earn a share of the points.

The result is a notable one in the context of the title race, as Gintra Universitetas Women were forced to work hard for a draw against a determined FK Vilnius side. For Vilnius, the performance will be a source of encouragement: they competed with one of the league’s strongest teams and twice took the lead before being pegged back.

Match overview

FK Vilnius Women started brightly and took the lead in the 14th minute. A quick transition caught Gintra’s defence unsettled, and the home side finished the move with a confident strike from inside the area. The early goal gave Vilnius energy, and they defended with discipline as Gintra began to dominate possession.

Gintra equalised in the 39th minute after a patient build-up. Their midfield found space on the edge of the box, and a well-placed effort restored parity before half-time. The visitors continued to control the ball after the restart, but Vilnius retook the lead in the 61st minute with a sharp counter-attacking goal that exposed the space left behind by Gintra’s advanced full-backs.

Gintra pushed forward in search of another equaliser and finally found it in the 83rd minute. A sustained spell of pressure ended with a close-range finish, ensuring the match ended 2-2. Both sides had late chances to win it, but neither could find a decisive third goal.

• 39th minute: Gintra Universitetas Women equalise with a measured strike from the edge of the area.

Tactical story

Gintra Universitetas Women controlled much of the possession and looked to stretch the game through their wide players. Their build-up was patient, but Vilnius defended in a compact block and worked hard to close the central spaces. That approach allowed Vilnius to spring forward on the counter, which is how they created both of their goals.

Gintra’s response showed their quality. They increased the tempo in the second half, pushed more players into the final third, and eventually found the equaliser through persistence. Vilnius, meanwhile, showed excellent game management for long spells and came close to holding on for a notable victory.

Standout performers

FK Vilnius Women’s goalkeeper produced several important saves, especially during Gintra’s strongest periods of pressure. The Vilnius midfield also impressed with its work rate and ability to launch quick transitions. For Gintra, the standout contributions came from the centre of midfield, where the tempo was raised and the team kept pushing for an equaliser.

What the result means

The draw prevents Gintra Universitetas Women from taking full advantage of their dominance in possession, and in a title race, dropped points can prove costly. FK Vilnius Women, on the other hand, will view the result as a strong platform for the rest of the season, having taken a point from one of the Lithuanian Women's A Lyga’s leading sides.

With the teams level at 2-2, the match served as a reminder of how competitive the league can be. Gintra remain a formidable force, but Vilnius’ performance showed that they are capable of troubling the best teams in the division.
