FK Banga Women produced a composed, professional performance to beat FK Vilnius Women 2-0 in the Lithuanian Women's A Lyga on Saturday, 26 September 2026. Two goals and a clean sheet gave the home side a result that strengthens their position among the leading contenders in the division.

Match overview

From the early exchanges it was clear which side wanted to impose its rhythm. FK Banga Women pressed high, recycled possession quickly and forced their opponents into a long defensive afternoon. FK Vilnius Women defended in numbers and tried to spring counter-attacks through the channels, but they struggled to hold the ball long enough to relieve the pressure.

The breakthrough came in the first half, and the second goal in the second period put the result beyond doubt. Crucially, Banga's defensive line held firm for the full ninety minutes, limiting the visitors to shots from distance.

Tactical story

FK Banga Women's shape was the foundation of the win. Playing with a high defensive line and an aggressive midfield press, they consistently won the ball back in the opposition half, turning defence into attack within seconds. The two wide players stretched the Vilnius back line throughout, creating the space that produced both goals.

FK Vilnius Women, by contrast, sat deep in a compact block and looked to survive the early pressure before attacking on the break. The plan worked reasonably well defensively but left their centre-forward isolated, and once the second goal went in the game was effectively over as a contest.

Standout performers

The two goalscorers will take the plaudits for FK Banga Women, but the standout display came in midfield, where the captain controlled possession, broke up play and set the team's tempo from the first minute to the last. The centre-backs deserve credit too for a disciplined, error-free clean sheet.

For FK Vilnius Women, the goalkeeper was comfortably her team's best player, making a series of saves that kept the scoreline respectable, while the left-back worked tirelessly against a steady stream of runners.

What it means

Three points and a shutout represent an ideal afternoon's work in the Lithuanian Women's A Lyga. FK Banga Women will take confidence from the control they exerted across the ninety minutes, particularly the way they managed the game once in front.

For FK Vilnius Women, the defeat is a reminder of the gap in cutting edge between the division's top sides and the chasing pack, but their defensive resilience for large spells offered something to build on in the fixtures ahead.
