FK Neptunas Klaipeda edged past BE1 NFA 1–0 in the Lithuanian I Lyga on Saturday evening, with a solitary first-half goal proving enough to secure three valuable points. The result keeps Neptunas in the hunt for promotion to the A Lyga.

Tense affair in Klaipeda

The match at the Klaipeda Central Stadium was a tight, tactical contest. Neptunas, playing in front of a passionate home crowd, dominated possession but struggled to break down a well-organised BE1 NFA defence. The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute when a deflected cross fell to Karolis Šilkaitis, who volleyed home from eight yards out.

BE1 NFA had their chances but lacked sharpness in the final third. Their best opportunity came in the 40th minute when a free kick from Domantas Vitkūnas forced a full-stretch save from Neptunas goalkeeper Mantas Blažys.

Second-half control

After the interval, Neptunas opted to sit deeper and protect their lead. BE1 NFA pushed forward with increasing urgency but rarely troubled the home defence. The visitors' captain Paulius Šidlauskas fired just wide from distance in the 67th minute, but that was as close as they came.

Neptunas substitute Vilius Ramanauskas almost doubled the lead in the 82nd minute when his shot from a counter-attack struck the post. The home side saw out the final minutes with relative comfort to secure a clean sheet and three points.

League implications

The win moves FK Neptunas Klaipeda up to fourth place in the Lithuanian I Lyga table, just three points behind leaders FK Banga. BE1 NFA remain in the lower half of the standings but have shown improvement in recent weeks.
