FK Garliava 0-2 FK Zalgiris Vilnius B ended with the visitors taking all three points in a Lithuanian I Lyga fixture that was decided by sharper finishing and a more controlled defensive display. Zalgiris Vilnius B scored once in each half, weathering Garliava’s best spells before pulling away late in the contest. The result gives the reserve side an important away win and leaves Garliava reflecting on a night when possession did not translate into enough clear chances.

Match overview

Played in late October, the match pitted Garliava’s home ambition against a Zalgiris Vilnius B side known for its young legs, aggressive pressing and quick transitions. Garliava started with intent and tried to use the width of the pitch, but the visitors were compact in the middle and refused to be stretched. Zalgiris B’s structure allowed them to absorb pressure and then attack through the channels, and that pattern produced the opening goal before the interval.

The second half followed a similar script. Garliava pushed more players forward in search of an equaliser, but the spaces that opened up suited Zalgiris B’s counter-attacking game. The visitors doubled their advantage with a well-worked move and then managed the closing stages with maturity, limiting Garliava to speculative efforts from distance.

Key moments

• First-half opener: Zalgiris Vilnius B broke the deadlock with a quick transition, catching Garliava short at the back and finishing calmly inside the penalty area.
• Garliava’s response: The hosts forced a series of corners before half-time, but Zalgiris B’s goalkeeper and centre-backs dealt with the deliveries comfortably.
• Second-half breakthrough: After Garliava committed more bodies forward, Zalgiris B found space on the counter and scored the goal that gave them breathing room.
• Late control: Garliava pressed in the final 15 minutes, but Zalgiris B slowed the tempo, won fouls in useful areas and protected the clean sheet.

Tactical story

The game was a clear contrast in approach. Garliava wanted to build patiently and create overloads in wide areas, but their final ball was often rushed. Zalgiris Vilnius B, by contrast, were happy to defend in a mid-block and strike when turnovers appeared. Their midfielders closed down second balls effectively, and their front players made repeated runs behind Garliava’s back line. That discipline proved decisive: Garliava had territorial advantage in patches, but Zalgiris B had the better-quality chances and the cleaner route to goal.

Standout performers

Zalgiris Vilnius B’s midfield duo set the tone with energetic pressing and sensible distribution, while their goalkeeper made a couple of important first-half saves to preserve the lead. For Garliava, the central defenders and goalkeeper worked hard under pressure, but the attacking unit struggled to find rhythm against a well-organised opponent. The hosts’ best moments came from set pieces and crosses, though they lacked the final touch to turn those situations into goals.

What the result means

The 0-2 scoreline gives FK Zalgiris Vilnius B a valuable away result in the Lithuanian I Lyga and reinforces their reputation as a difficult side to break down. For FK Garliava, the defeat is a reminder that home advantage must be backed by greater cutting edge in the final third. The league table remains tight, and both teams will know that consistency over the coming weeks will shape their ambitions. Garliava will need to respond quickly, while Zalgiris B can take confidence from a professional, controlled performance on the road.
