Transinvest delivered one of the most emphatic results of the Lithuanian A Lyga season on 20 September 2026, defeating FK Žalgiris Vilnius 3-0 in front of their home supporters. The scoreline reflected a complete performance: Transinvest were sharper in both boxes, faster to loose balls, and clinical on the counter-attack against a Žalgiris side that struggled to turn possession into genuine chances.

Match overview

From the opening whistle, Transinvest set the tone with an aggressive high press. Žalgiris tried to build from the back through their midfield pivot, but the home side's front three cut off passing lanes and forced long balls. Transinvest took the lead in the 18th minute and never looked back, adding a second before half-time and a third late in the second half as Žalgiris chased the game.

Žalgiris saw more of the ball after the break, but Transinvest's defensive block remained compact. The visitors' best moments came from set pieces, yet they could not find a way past a goalkeeper who was well protected by his centre-backs.

Key moments

• 18' — Transinvest 1-0: A high turnover in midfield released Dovydas Norvilas, who drove into the box and finished low across the goalkeeper.
• 34' — Transinvest 2-0: Norvilas struck again, arriving at the back post to convert a whipped cross from the right.
• 58' — Žalgiris chance: The visitors' first clear opening came from a corner, but a header was cleared off the line by Transinvest's covering defender.
• 79' — Transinvest 3-0: Ernestas Veliulis sealed the win on the counter, finishing calmly after a three-on-two break.

Tactical story

Transinvest lined up in a disciplined 4-2-3-1 that became a 4-4-2 out of possession. Their two central midfielders screened the space in front of the defence, forcing Žalgiris wide and then winning the second balls. When Transinvest won possession, they attacked vertically and with numbers. Žalgiris' full-backs pushed high, leaving space behind, and Transinvest repeatedly exploited it.

Žalgiris finished with more possession but fewer high-quality chances. Their inability to break down a compact opponent has been a recurring issue in away matches, and Transinvest's tactical discipline made it a long evening for the title contenders.

Standout players

Dovydas Norvilas was the obvious hero with a first-half brace. His movement between the centre-backs and his composure in front of goal gave Transinvest a platform. Ernestas Veliulis added energy and a late goal, while Transinvest's goalkeeper and centre-back pairing deserved credit for a clean sheet against one of the A Lyga's strongest attacks.

What the result means

The win strengthens Transinvest's position in the upper half of the Lithuanian A Lyga table and boosts their confidence for the run-in. For FK Žalgiris Vilnius, it is a damaging setback in the title race, leaving them to reflect on a night when they were outworked and outfinished. In the head-to-head record, Transinvest will remember this as a landmark result against one of Lithuania's most decorated clubs.
