FC Felgueiras 2-2 Lusitania FC: Late Comeback Stuns Hosts in Liga Portugal 2

FC Felgueiras were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by Lusitania FC in Liga Portugal 2 on 25 October 2026, surrendering a two-goal lead in the closing stages. The hosts looked in control for much of the match, but a spirited second-half comeback from Lusitania earned them a point and left Felgueiras to rue missed chances.

Match Overview

Felgueiras started strongly and took the lead in the 18th minute when João Carlos curled a fine effort into the far corner after cutting in from the left. The home side doubled their advantage in the 41st minute, Rúben Alves tapping in from close range after a low ball across the six-yard box. At that stage, the hosts appeared to be cruising.

Lusitania improved after the interval, pressing higher and committing more bodies forward. Their persistence paid off in the 63rd minute when André Sousa reduced the deficit with a low strike from the edge of the area. Felgueiras retreated deeper as the game wore on, and Lusitania found an equaliser in the 88th minute through Tiago Martins, who headed home from a corner.

Key Moments

• 18′ – Felgueiras goal: João Carlos curled a composed finish into the far corner.
• 41′ – Felgueiras second: Rúben Alves converted from close range after a quick move down the right.
• 63′ – Lusitania lifeline: André Sousa struck from the edge of the box to make it 2-1.
• 88′ – Lusitania equaliser: Tiago Martins headed in from a corner to complete the comeback.

Tactical Story

Felgueiras’ first-half display was built on quick ball movement and intelligent pressing. Their midfield won second balls and their wide players repeatedly found space behind the Lusitania full-backs. The two-goal cushion was deserved, but the hosts’ decision to drop deeper after halftime invited pressure.

Lusitania switched to a more direct approach, using wide deliveries and set pieces to test the Felgueiras defence. The introduction of fresh legs in midfield gave them more energy in the final 20 minutes, and the late corner that produced the equaliser was a reward for their persistence.

Standout Performers

João Carlos was the game’s most creative attacker in the first half and capped his performance with a well-taken goal. André Sousa changed the momentum for Lusitania after the break, while Tiago Martins delivered the decisive moment with a composed header. Felgueiras goalkeeper Diogo Matos made two important saves but could not prevent the late setback.

Season Impact

The draw feels like two points dropped for Felgueiras, who will know that game management in the final 20 minutes must improve if they are to stay in the promotion conversation. Lusitania, by contrast, will take confidence from a comeback that shows character and tactical flexibility. In the tightly packed Liga Portugal 2 standings, such late points can prove valuable by the end of the season.
