Academica Coimbra produced one of their most complete performances of the Liga Portugal 2 season, defeating Leixoes 4-0 on Saturday, 24 October 2026, with a clinical attacking display and a commanding second half.

Match overview

Academica set the tone early, pressing high and forcing Leixoes into hurried clearances. The home side’s intensity was rewarded with an opening goal and they never allowed the visitors to settle. After the break, Academica added further goals as Leixoes were forced to chase the game, leaving space that the hosts exploited ruthlessly.

Route to victory

• Academica opened the scoring in the first half after a sustained spell of pressure and a neat finish from inside the area.
• A second goal shortly after half-time gave the hosts breathing room and changed the shape of the contest.
• The third arrived from a flowing move, with the forward converting after a low cross into the box.
• A late fourth completed the rout and capped a dominant team performance.

Tactical story

Academica’s midfield controlled the tempo and repeatedly won second balls, preventing Leixoes from building any rhythm. The wide players stretched the defence, creating room for the central striker and late runners from midfield. Leixoes attempted to press higher after conceding, but that only increased the space available to the hosts.

Standout performers

The Academica forward line was relentless, with the central striker’s movement causing problems throughout. The midfield controller dictated play intelligently, while the defence kept a clean sheet and limited Leixoes to very few clear chances. For the visitors, the goalkeeper made several saves to prevent an even heavier defeat.

Season impact

The 4-0 win is a significant statement for Academica Coimbra in Liga Portugal 2. It boosts confidence, improves their goal difference, and reinforces their promotion ambitions. Leixoes must regroup quickly, as a result of this size can affect morale and momentum in a competitive second tier.
