Gardnersville FC 1-1 Wologisi FC: Gardnersville FC and Wologisi FC shared the spoils in a competitive Liberia First Division encounter on Wednesday night, drawing 1-1 after an evenly matched contest. Emmanuel Kollie gave Gardnersville a first-half lead, but Prince Varney’s second-half equaliser earned Wologisi a deserved point.

Match overview

The game began at a brisk pace, with both sides looking to press high and force mistakes in the defensive third. Gardnersville were the more direct team early on, using the channels and looking for Kollie’s movement in behind. That approach paid off in the 22nd minute when Kollie latched onto a through ball and finished confidently.

Wologisi responded well to going behind. They kept possession better after the half-hour mark and began to find space between Gardnersville’s midfield and defence. The equaliser arrived in the 67th minute through Varney, whose composed finish capped a patient attacking move. Both teams pushed for a winner late on, but the goalkeepers and some last-ditch defending kept the score level.

Key moments

• 9th minute: Wologisi tested the Gardnersville goalkeeper with a low drive from the edge of the box.
• 22nd minute: Gardnersville took the lead when Emmanuel Kollie broke the offside trap and slotted home.
• 45+1st minute: Wologisi nearly equalised before the break, but a header from a corner went just over.
• 67th minute: Prince Varney equalised with a calm finish after a neat exchange on the edge of the area.
• 89th minute: Gardnersville’s goalkeeper produced a sharp save to deny Wologisi a late winner.

Tactical story

Gardnersville set up to be compact and explosive in transition. Their midfield worked hard to win second balls, and their wide players provided an outlet whenever Wologisi committed numbers forward. The early goal allowed them to sit slightly deeper and protect the lead, but it also invited pressure.

Wologisi adjusted well after the break, moving the ball more quickly and using overlapping runs to stretch the defence. Their equaliser was a reward for that improved control. In the final 20 minutes, both teams showed ambition, but neither could find the quality needed to claim all three points.

Standout players

Emmanuel Kollie was a constant threat for Gardnersville and took his goal well. Prince Varney was Wologisi’s most influential attacking player and grew into the game as it wore on. The two goalkeepers also deserve credit for making key saves in a match that could easily have produced more goals.

What it means

The point keeps both sides in the congested middle section of the Liberia First Division table. Gardnersville will be disappointed not to have protected their lead, while Wologisi will take encouragement from a strong second-half response. With fine margins separating teams in the division, away points of this kind can prove valuable over the course of the season.
