Discoveries SA 1-2 Freeport saw the visitors come from behind to claim an important away win in the Liberia First Division on 25 October 2026. Discoveries SA started well and took the lead, but Freeport responded with a determined second-half performance to turn the match around and leave with all three points.

Match overview

Discoveries SA made the brighter start and were rewarded with the opening goal midway through the first half. Their pressing forced Freeport into several early mistakes, and the home side looked comfortable as they protected their advantage. Freeport, however, gradually settled and began to find space in midfield, creating a few half-chances before the break.

The equaliser arrived early in the second half and changed the momentum of the game. Freeport pushed higher up the pitch, won more second balls, and began to pin Discoveries back. The winning goal came in the final quarter of an hour, capping a strong comeback and leaving the home side to rue a missed opportunity.

Key moments

• Discoveries take lead: The hosts opened the scoring in the first half after a quick break and a confident finish.
• Freeport response: The visitors finished the first half strongly, forcing two saves from the Discoveries goalkeeper.
• Second-half equaliser: Freeport levelled shortly after the restart with a close-range finish after a goalmouth scramble.
• Winning goal: Freeport completed the comeback in the closing stages, converting a cross from the left.
• Late pressure: Discoveries pushed forward in stoppage time, but Freeport defended resolutely to hold on.

Tactical story

Discoveries SA’s early plan worked well: they pressed high, forced turnovers, and attacked quickly through the middle. But as the game wore on, their intensity dropped and Freeport began to control possession. The visitors adjusted their shape after half-time, pushing their wingers higher and overloading the full-back areas, which created the space for both goals.

Freeport’s comeback was built on persistence and better use of the ball in wide areas. They also improved their defensive transitions, preventing Discoveries from launching the kind of quick counterattacks that had caused problems in the first half. The home side’s late push lacked clear chances, and Freeport managed the closing minutes well.

Standout performers

Freeport’s centre-forward was influential in the second half, holding up play and bringing teammates into the attack. Their left winger provided the cross for the winner and was a constant outlet. For Discoveries SA, the goalkeeper made several important saves to keep the team in the match, while their captain tried to drive the side forward in the final stages.

Season impact

The 2-1 win gives Freeport a valuable three points on the road in the Liberia First Division, strengthening their position in the table and boosting confidence after a hard-fought comeback. Discoveries SA will be disappointed to lose after taking the lead, but the performance showed enough attacking promise to suggest they can respond in their next fixture. In a competitive league, turning narrow defeats into points will be key for both sides as the season develops.
