Bourj SC and Salam SC Zgharta played out a tense 0-0 draw in the Lebanese Federation Cup, a result that reflected the evenly matched nature of two teams eager to make an impression in the competition. It was a night for defenders, goalkeepers and disciplined midfield work, with clear chances at a premium.

Match Overview

Bourj SC, a club with a strong tradition in Lebanese football and a loyal following, came into the fixture looking to assert control and play on the front foot. Salam SC Zgharta, representing the northern city of Zgharta, travelled with a well-organised squad and a reputation for resilience.

The Federation Cup often produces tightly contested matches, and this was no exception. Both sides prioritised defensive structure from the first whistle, and while the tempo was high, the final third remained stubbornly locked.

Key Moments

• Opening chance: Bourj created the first opportunity of note, a low cross flashing across the six-yard box with no one able to apply the finishing touch.
• Zgharta's response: Salam SC Zgharta settled into the game and forced a smart save with a curling effort from the right-hand side.
• Half-time stalemate: The first half ended goalless, with both managers visibly urging their teams to be more adventurous.
• Second-half pressure: Bourj pushed higher up the pitch after the restart, winning a series of set pieces, all of which were defended resolutely.
• Late scare: In the dying minutes, Zgharta won a free kick in a dangerous position, but the delivery was cleared at the near post.

Tactical Story

Bourj lined up with an ambitious 4-2-3-1, using their wide players to stretch Salam SC Zgharta and create crossing opportunities. Their build-up play was patient and deliberate, but the final pass consistently lacked the precision needed to break down a well-marshalled defence.

Zgharta adopted a compact 4-4-2 shape without the ball, dropping their wingers deep to form a six-man defensive line at times. It was a pragmatic approach, and it worked: Bourj were restricted to shots from distance and half-chances rather than genuine one-on-ones.

Where Zgharta excelled was in transition. Their two strikers worked in tandem, pressing Bourj's centre-backs and forcing hurried passes. When they won the ball, they attacked directly and looked dangerous, though they, too, lacked the final flourish.

Standout Performers

Bourj's right-back was their most consistent attacking outlet, delivering several excellent crosses and getting back to defend diligently. In central defence, their captain led by example, winning headers and organising the defensive line.

Salam SC Zgharta's goalkeeper was the match's unsung hero, making three saves of real quality and claiming crosses under pressure. Their holding midfielder was also outstanding, shielding the back four and distributing intelligently under pressure.

What Comes Next

The draw leaves both clubs with work to do in the group, though neither will be overly discouraged. Bourj will look to convert possession into goals in their next fixture, while Zgharta will aim to build on a defensively excellent performance and add a little more attacking ambition.

Cup football rewards teams who can combine organisation with a moment of individual brilliance. On this evidence, both Bourj SC and Salam SC Zgharta have the structure in place; the difference will be finding the goal that turns draws into victories.
