Malisheva pulled off one of the standout results of the Kosovo Superliga weekend, defeating champions FC Ballkani 2-1 at their home ground. The victory, sealed by a late goal, ends a long run of dominance for Ballkani in this fixture and blows the title race wide open.

Match Overview

FC Ballkani have been the dominant force in Kosovan football in recent years, regularly competing in UEFA club competitions and setting the standard domestically. Malisheva, by contrast, are a smaller club with a proud local following, and they entered this match as clear underdogs. Few neutrals expected anything other than a Ballkani win, but football is rarely predictable, and Malisheva produced a disciplined, courageous performance that fully deserved the three points.

The Superliga is the top tier of football in Kosovo, and matches between the established elite and ambitious provincial clubs are often fiercely contested. This game was no exception, with a passionate crowd creating an intense atmosphere that seemed to lift the home players.

Key Moments

• 12' – Malisheva 0-1 FC Ballkani: Ballkani took an early lead through Albion Rrahmani, who finished off a flowing move with a low drive into the bottom corner. It looked like business as usual for the champions.
• 34' – 1-1: Malisheva responded impressively. Ardit Hoxha equalised with a powerful header from a corner, rising above his marker to send the home fans into raptures.
• 58': Ballkani thought they had retaken the lead, but a goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR check, a decision that gave Malisheva renewed belief.
• 88' – 2-1: The decisive moment arrived when Lirim Kastrati latched onto a loose ball on the edge of the box and curled a stunning left-footed shot into the far corner. The stadium erupted as the upset became reality.
• 90+4': Ballkani threw everyone forward, but Malisheva's defence held firm, clearing a last-ditch cross to secure a famous win.

Tactical Story

Malisheva set up in a compact 4-4-2, content to concede possession and hit on the counter-attack. Their defensive lines were well-organised, and they worked tirelessly to close down space in midfield. The plan was to frustrate Ballkani and exploit set pieces, which is exactly how they got their equaliser.

Ballkani dominated the ball, as expected, but they struggled to create clear chances against a packed defence. Their wide players were often forced backwards, and the absence of a clinical final pass became increasingly frustrating. When Malisheva scored late on, Ballkani had no time to respond, and their frustration boiled over in stoppage time with a series of hurried attempts.

Standout Players

• Lirim Kastrati (Malisheva): The match-winner produced a moment of pure quality to decide the game. His energy and direct running caused problems all evening.
• Ardit Hoxha (Malisheva): Scored the crucial equaliser and was a constant threat from set pieces. His aerial presence was vital in both boxes.
• Albion Rrahmani (FC Ballkani): The striker took his goal well and was Ballkani's most dangerous player, but he was often isolated as his teammates struggled to break down the Malisheva block.

Season Impact

This result is a major boost for Malisheva, who move up the table and prove they can compete with the league's best. For Ballkani, it is a rare domestic setback that leaves the door ajar for rivals in the title race. The champions will need to respond quickly, but the psychological impact of this defeat could linger. Malisheva, meanwhile, will believe they can push for a European qualification spot if they maintain this level of performance.

What's Next

Ballkani will be desperate to return to winning ways in their next Superliga fixture, while Malisheva will look to build on this confidence-boosting result. The title race is now more intriguing than ever.
