RB Omiya Ardija Ventus suffered a narrow 1-2 defeat at home to Cerezo Osaka Sakai in the Women Empowerment League on 25 October 2026, as the visitors produced a composed comeback to take all three points. Omiya’s early promise was undone by Cerezo’s improved control after the break, and the away side’s second-half winner settled a closely contested fixture.

Match overview

Omiya Ardija Ventus began brightly and were rewarded for their aggressive start when they opened the scoring. Their pressing forced Cerezo into rushed clearances, and the home midfield found space between the lines. For a spell, Omiya looked the more likely side to add to their lead, but Cerezo stayed within touching distance and gradually found a foothold in the game.

The equaliser arrived before half-time and changed the mood of the contest. Cerezo began to dominate possession in the second half, switching play from side to side and pulling Omiya’s defensive block out of shape. The decisive moment came when the visitors converted a well-worked attacking move, and Omiya could not find a response in the closing stages.

Key moments

• Omiya take the lead: A sharp attacking move down the right ended with a finish inside the penalty area, giving the home side an early advantage.
• Cerezo respond: The visitors levelled before the interval with a calm finish after a spell of sustained pressure.
• Winning goal: Cerezo completed the turnaround in the second half, finishing off a flowing move that stretched the Omiya defence.
• Late pressure: Omiya pushed players forward in search of an equaliser, but Cerezo managed the final minutes well.

Tactical story

Omiya’s high press worked well in the opening 20 minutes, forcing turnovers and creating quick attacks. However, as the game wore on, Cerezo’s midfield began to find pockets of space and their wide players started to influence proceedings. The visitors’ ability to switch the point of attack was a recurring problem for Omiya, whose defensive line had to cover large distances.

Cerezo’s comeback was built on patience rather than panic. They kept their shape, circulated the ball with purpose and waited for Omiya to commit players forward. When the spaces appeared, they attacked them decisively. Omiya, by contrast, became slightly stretched in the second half and struggled to maintain the intensity of their early pressing.

Standout performers

Cerezo’s central midfielder was central to the fightback, linking defence and attack and setting the tempo of the game. The away side’s forward line also deserves credit for their movement, which repeatedly created openings in the second half. For Omiya, their goalkeeper made several important stops to keep the score close, while the home captain tried to drive the team forward from midfield.

Table and season impact

The win gives Cerezo Osaka Sakai a valuable three points in the Women Empowerment League standings and strengthens their position in a competitive race. For Omiya Ardija Ventus, the defeat is a reminder that early leads must be protected, especially against teams capable of controlling possession for long spells. The result adds another twist to the league’s head-to-head battles and leaves both sides with plenty to reflect on as the season progresses.

With the final score 1-2, the match report highlights Cerezo’s patience and Omiya’s early energy. In a league where consistency is crucial, the visitors’ ability to respond after conceding could prove to be one of their most important qualities this season.
