Yokohama FC Seagulls Women came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory over Nittaidai SMG Yokohama in a fiercely contested Nadeshiko League 1 derby on 26 September 2026, turning a half-time deficit into a statement away win that strengthens their grip on the upper half of the table.

Match overview

Played at Nittaidai SMG Yokohama's home ground, the fixture pitted the university-backed development side against one of the city's established Nadeshiko League clubs — a rivalry that has quietly become one of the most watchable in Japanese women's football. Nittaidai SMG Yokohama, built around the Nippon Sport Science University programme, began with the energy and press intensity that has made them difficult to beat on their own pitch, while Yokohama FC Seagulls Women set up to absorb pressure and strike on the counter.

Key moments

• First half – Nittaidai SMG Yokohama started the brighter of the two sides, pressing high and forcing turnovers in midfield. The reward arrived before the break, with a well-worked move down the right finished confidently to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
• Second half – Yokohama FC Seagulls Women pushed their full-backs higher and began to win the territorial battle. An equaliser arrived after sustained pressure, a low strike from the edge of the area that levelled the score.
• Late winner – With the match drifting towards a draw, Seagulls struck the decisive blow, converting a set-piece opportunity that Nittaidai's defence failed to clear. The hosts pushed forward in the final minutes but could not find a response.
• Final whistle – A 2-1 away victory for Yokohama FC Seagulls Women, their second consecutive win in the Nadeshiko League 1 campaign.

Tactical story

The contest was a classic clash of styles. Nittaidai SMG Yokohama wanted to play quickly and vertically, using their younger legs to suffocate the Seagulls in possession. For 45 minutes it worked almost perfectly, with the hosts winning second balls and creating the better chances. But the Seagulls' half-time adjustments — a narrower midfield block and more direct service to the forward line — flipped the momentum.

Once the equaliser went in, the game became a test of nerve. Seagulls Women managed the closing stages with the composure of a side used to tight Nadeshiko League encounters, slowing the tempo and drawing fouls before punishing Nittaidai from a dead-ball situation. Nittaidai's late push was admirable but increasingly rushed, and the final pass repeatedly let them down.

Standout players

For the visitors, the midfielder who drove the second-half comeback was the game's outstanding figure, repeatedly carrying the ball through the middle and setting the tone for the press that pinned Nittaidai back. The goalscorer of the winning goal underlined her value in big moments, arriving late in the box exactly when her team needed it.

Nittaidai SMG Yokohama will take encouragement from the opening hour. Their first-half goalscorer was sharp and direct, and the young goalkeeper produced two important saves to keep the deficit at one goal deep into the second half.

What it means

Three points on the road against a local rival is exactly the kind of result that shapes a Nadeshiko League 1 season. Yokohama FC Seagulls Women move forward with renewed confidence as they chase a higher finish, while Nittaidai SMG Yokohama are left to reflect on a familiar frustration: controlling long spells of a match without converting that control into a result. Both clubs now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures, with the return derby already circled on the calendar.
