Ehime FC 2-1 Kamatamare Sanuki — Ehime FC won the latest instalment of the Shikoku derby, beating Kamatamare Sanuki 2-1 in the J3 League on 19 September 2026 in a match full of local pride, commitment and no shortage of drama.

Match Overview

Derby matches on Shikoku carry a special weight, and this fixture at Ningineer Stadium lived up to its reputation. The home crowd was in full voice from the first whistle, and Ehime FC responded with an aggressive, front-foot performance that pinned Kamatamare Sanuki back for the opening half hour.

Kamatamare, as they so often do, refused to fold. Their resilience kept the contest alive and set up a tense, absorbing finale.

Key Moments

• Opening goal (Ehime): Relentless early pressure was rewarded when a deflected shot from the edge of the box looped into the net.
• Second goal (Ehime): A swift move down the right flank produced a perfectly weighted cross that was headed home to double the lead.
• Lifeline (Kamatamare): A penalty, awarded after a foul in the box, was converted confidently to halve the deficit and set up a nervous finish.
• Final stand: Ehime's defence survived a barrage of late crosses and long throws, with a goal-line clearance in stoppage time preserving the win.

Tactical Story

Ehime's approach was direct and purposeful: win the ball in midfield, move it forward quickly, and attack the flanks. Both goals came from exactly that pattern, and their willingness to commit numbers forward early in the game gave them a cushion they would ultimately need.

Kamatamare's response was to tighten up defensively and look to set pieces and long balls into the box for a route back into the match. That strategy produced a nervy final twenty minutes, with Ehime dropping deeper and deeper as they protected their advantage. In the end, sheer determination and a couple of crucial blocks saw them over the line.

Standout Players

Ehime's wide players were the difference-makers, with their pace and delivery causing problems throughout, while the central defender who cleared off the line in stoppage time produced the defining moment of the match. For Kamatamare Sanuki, the goalscorer from the spot showed composure under pressure, and their captain drove the late fightback with admirable intensity.

Season Impact

Derby victories mean more than three points, and this win gives Ehime FC a significant psychological boost as well as valuable momentum in the J3 League table. Local bragging rights will be savoured by the supporters, but the club will also be aware that the defensive retreat in the closing stages is something to address.

Kamatamare Sanuki leave with nothing despite a spirited second-half display, and their ability to convert encouraging performances into points will be the key question for the remainder of the campaign. In a division as tight as the J3 League, narrow defeats such as this one can shape the entire season.
